That upgrade to Carrara Pro looks very tempting. I'll have to see where finances are closer to the end of the month.

bandolin ( ) posted Sat, 15 July 2006 at 3:11 PM

Man, I'd jump all over that Carrara 5 pro, but I've invested so much time in 3DS Max. How does one ever settle on an app when there are so many temptations.

I wish "pwSurface" had been included in that sale. (Subsurface Scattering, Ambient Occlusion, & Translucence for the Studio app)

Holy $&@! Batman....

I didn't realize myself that the PC members get an additional 30% off...which means;

Bryce 5.5 - $35

Carrara Standard to Pro upgrade - $105

Etc...

Ah...curse you to hell DAZ! Lol...I guess I could eat hot dogs for the next week...that Carrara upgrade price is tempting...!

Damned tempting...

Yesterday, I went to see a client in a posh office building when a this woman with a killer pair of legs gets on the elevator. I couldn't stop staring. She must've been totally creeped out by me. I couldn't take my eyes off those legs. What would my wife have thought if she were there, I don't want to know.

Well, this Carrara deal is doing that to me. What will Max think of me, I don't want to know...

ROFLMAO!....."What will Max think of me"

You tell Max that it's not her...that's it you, and that yes, you still find her pretty....

...and then go have your way with Miss Carrara...in some old seedy computer.

I really don't understand why the upgrade price from Carrara5 to 5Pro is so much. There doesn't seem to be that much of an incentive with what you get to upgrade at all.

If anyone can give me a good reason why the price is so much I might reconsider, but I really can't see what you get that would make it worthwhile.

The Pro version, from what I remember seems to have the little extras that would make a huge difference to animators.

I don't know, lol...that's just how Eovia had it set up.  ;o)

Oh well I rarely do animations so maybe it wouldn't be worthwhile anyway.

Thanks for letting me know AS. 8)

I'm still thinking of doing it....I gotta look at the Carrara info, see if its network rendering can string multiple pc's to render a single image like Bryce, or...does it have to be an animation?

(Network rendering is part of the Pro version)

PJF ( ) posted Thu, 20 July 2006 at 8:18 AM

Eovia didn't include the TransPoser thingie with Carrara standard, so that was another benefit of the Pro version. When DAZ did their promotion, TransPoser was bundled with standard. That pretty much left "edge tools" in the Hex type modeller; the Global Ilumination baking feature and some fancy import/export plugins as the main benefit of Pro.

It's not as though I need those now, but rather whether I might need them in the future and so should I grab the Pro version for about fifty quid while I can? In some ways it makes sense, but when I consider that I've opened Carrara once since I bought it (whereas Bryce opened every other day) - then hmmm...

I will go Carrara. Eventually. ;-)

bandolin ( ) posted Thu, 20 July 2006 at 8:23 AM

But if they're doing this because Carrara 6 is about to come out, I wonder why buy now? Eventhough the prices are amazing.

I'm very tempted by the upgrade as well. It does seem like a new ver. release might soon be in the offing because of the timing of this sale just before Siggraph.

Gog ( ) posted Fri, 21 July 2006 at 3:39 AM

For the biggest difference with carrara pro versus standard where the extra poly tools, but I've only played with the demos and haven't purchased yet, I'll still probably save the extra cash and go with XSI....

I haven't seen any chatter about an imminent release of Carrara6. Is there a link to something?

bandolin ( ) posted Fri, 21 July 2006 at 8:09 AM

No this is all just conjecture.

I did it; I went for the Carrara Pro offer.

So now I'm not using Carrara yet seriously, as opposed to just messing about not using it yet. ;-)

Just baught Carrara 5 pro it look ok, now i've got maya 7, ts7 and bryce 5.5.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 01 August 2006 at 10:45 AM

I really like the Carrara 5 standard, although it's nowhere near as intuitive as Bryce, but it's fun to play with. 8)
