Subject: "body" selection not working on some items in P6

Boni ( ) posted Sat, 22 July 2006 at 3:45 PM · edited Thu, 02 January 2025 at 10:57 PM

Okay, the subject pretty well says it all.  There are items that when I try to select the body for them, it selects the item above or below the item in the hierarchie.  Body parts can be selected directly in the document window but even then when I try to select body in the drop down (Document window or  the Properties window. ... basically it means I can't do a general "body" morph, or rename the object.  It's a little frustrating.  Any idea what causes this and how I can fix it?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  I've used Poser since version 3, so I'm pretty familier withthe program.

Ooo-err..
No, I have no idea what could cause this. It's never happened to me.
Can you give a specific example (with pics)?
And which SR are you on?
Is it just with a single figure/prop in the scene, or does it only happen when there are several?

Just trying to narrow things down...

Cheers,
Diolma

I've never seen that issue either. Is it just one particular figure or all of them?

It does happen with all figures.  It happens when I bring in secondary figures and props.  I can't really exemplify it because it's a process not just an image that can be "shown".  Let me give a scenereo and see if that clerifies it.  I've tried to ignore it, but it's annoying.

  1. bring in main figure. (I always set my start screen with empty actors)
  2. add dress to Jessi for example.  (okay so far) (conform to Jessi)
  3. add right shoe (okay) (conform to Jessi)
  4. add left shoe (okay) (conform to Jessi)

I want to name the right shoe something different ... I click on "right shoe" in the drop down ... and I get the dress.  I click on right shoe in the properties drop down ... I get the dress.  Now ... I click on the right foot of the shoe and I get the right foot of the shoe ... then I choose body ... and I get the dress.   This happens with a variety of items.  Not just shoes, that was just a simpler example, and has happened with shoes.  Pretty bazzar hu?  This didn't happen with P5 or earlier.

This occassionally happens to me in P5 and I put it down to a "lag" type effect.  Just select in the properties popup rather than the document window settings and all should be okay.

Unfortunately it happens in Properties as well.  Otherwise I would just shrug it off.  Looks like time to contact eF.  :)

Ahhh if it is the "Lag" effect of low memory have you tried just waiting for the menus to catch up with reality? I get LAG in Poser 6 a lot when I'm running low on memory and it just takes patience to wait for the menu's to catch up. They eventually do.

Oh ... okay, I'll  keep that in mind, I wasn't sure what that ment.  :)  And I forgot to say thank you for all of your help.  Thanks all.

It just means that although the menu show's you have selected the new figure, part of the old figures data is still tying up memory and it just takes a while longer for the memory to catch up. I have that happen on my 2.8Ghz machine with 1 gig of memory.

I had this problem with my Tablet in another program and it was resolved by getting the latest Driver for my Video Card. I am not sure if this is your issue, but it sounds more like a Display Issue (no WYSIWYG on the Mouse Movements in Menus)

If that fails, contact Tech Support.

FWIW,

I have similar issues with Jessi if there is more than one figure in the file even if they have been renamed. Something that seems to fix it, sometimes, is to save the file, close Poser, reopen Poser and then reload the file. This seems to straighten out the lists and get things selecting properly again. I contacted eF over a week and a half ago with no response or even an acknowledged receipt of the email, so I'm not holding my breath for an answer, but perhaps this will help solve your problem.

HTH,
