I'm somewhat of a newbie in Poser, so please go easy on me.

I have Jessi as a model, I'm trying to create some instructional poses for my swim team, and I'm having a heck of a time figuring out clothing :(  Something is not sinking in.

I need to have a swimsuit/spandex suit similar to what I sketched up in the attached image.

First I thought I'd try to take Jessi's body map, and paint the swimsuit, BUT, without the UV mapped mesh, I'm having a heck of a time making nice cuff edges on the sleeves, and can't get the spandex look.

I tried couple of swimsuits, but I'm having a hard time fitting Jessi into them. I suspect I don't know how to use the dials. For example, do I need to adjust the jessi's chest and the suit chest till they coincide (even after conforming) or did I do something wrong on conforming, or is it because I used morphs (endomorph, mezzomorph etc..) that came with Jessi...

This is for sports, so I need to tone down the sexiness, and most swimmers have pretty small boobs, and somewhat boyish figures.  This is very generally the look http://www.kiefer.com/Kiefer/assets/product_images/asjf.jpg
I'd like to be able to do something without a lot of postwork, because I'm planing on making a few animations

I'm little overwhelmed with which way to go, to try and UV map Jessi and keep painting the suit, or to look for a bodysuit to buy (and figure out how to deal with odd sports poses), or if there's another way, different figure... The volume of info ou there is overwhelming, I don;t know which way to turn first.

Any ideas or advice you Poser-pro's might have to set me straitght would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

You could try using Victoria 3.0, a free figure from DAZ.

http://www.daz3d.com/

Then you could do the swimsuit as a second skin by going into
Poser's material room, selecting the body parts you want
to be the swinsuit, and changing the diffuse color to blue.
If you want a male figure, Michael 3.0 is also free and
can use the same colors as Victoria 3.0.

I tried with Victoria (have Victoria and Michael). I can't seem to make her look very sporty, at least not with the base. I could get the body morphs, much like what jessi comes with, but then I get into the same issue with not knowing how to fit clothing, or not finding the right piece. Get lost in huneds of morphs and volume of information.

When I go with just coloring the body parts, I get feedback that it looks too pornographic. You can see nipple bumps, too much efinition under chest and under glutes, visible belly button etc. All things that spandex-like suits tend to cover up.
I do need to end up with a significant level of realisam. Another consideration, poses seem to not transfer well from one model to another, and I have a number of poses developed for Stephanie. I figured I can develop the poses before I finnd the clothes, and I've been working on them for lst few months. I'd rather not have to re-do them all.

Not to mention tht at the moment, I can't get even get victoria or michael to show up in P6. They only show up in DAZ studio but, that's another story. I tried V3 catsuit, but couldn't get her boobs smaller. I need more experience with morphs, I think that was my problem?

I dunno, whichever direction I look in, there's something I don't seem to know how to resolve.

Thanks for the suggestion :)

Hi Conniekat8,

I am working on a few things for Jessi, swimsuits being one of the items.  I made a Speedo type competition suit for Katie, that I can try to fit to Jessi.  I'll get back to you later on that, as I've got to get bed, as 7:00 rolls around fast. -Starkdog

Ok,

I did a "quick and dirty" shrinkwrap of Katie's swimsuit on Jessi.  I do have some pokethrough which I can fix.  Here is a front view.  Notice that Jessi is happy that she has a swimsuit that successfully do a 400 IM in. -Starkdog

And here is a back shot.  The swimsuit is a "racerback" style that females wore when I used to be on a swim team.  Yes, I will fix the pokethrough, and try to smooth out the piping details when Hexagon decides to behave. -Starkdog

Here is the original swimsuit for Katie.  I have yet to make this a conforming figure.  Katie, too, is happy that she has a swimsuit to wear.  Heck, she is just happy to have anything to wear besides her base set of clothes. -Starkdog

And, it fits nicely in the back too.  Katie is all excited about making the 400m relay team. -Starkdog

I found this worked pretty well for V3.

The "Spandex" morph that the free figure comes with almost did it, but it had some distortion problems. I had to load a couple from her body morph set. If you have that, this should work for you. In the screenshot, you can see a set of the morph values I used that produce the general effect I think you're looking for.

For the "swimsuit" texture, I used a shader from the free pack of shaders made by Ajax. Search free stuff here at rendo for "ajax" and keep paging till you see "Ajax's P5 Shader Pack 01 ". The texture I used was in his "Textiles" section - Camo Blue. In order to make the cloth (which is actually her skin of course) stand out, I edited the texture. Just add a Math function (Add) with a value of .15 and connect it to the displacement input on the shader. Save that for yourself as a modified texture and then apply to SkinTorso, Nipples, and Skin Hip. NOTE: My Poser units are in INCHES. Make sure you change your Poser display units to inches before entering the value of .15, otherwise it won't be .15 inches, but .15 feet or something. After you enter the value, you can change the display units back to your favorite value.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Hi Starkdog, Hi Bagginsbill,

Thanks guys for your input. :)

Starkdog, what you're doing seems to be what I was attempting to learn how to do, and got tangled up... Is there a tutorial somewhere? I was looking for something like that, but I think my being green on terminology prevented me from finding the right thing! Like, when you said 'shrinkwrap', I'm wondering, was that a single command, was that a process, how does it it react to the morphs. Looks like I chose to use Hi res Jessi, with full body morphs.

Way back when in Poser 3, I was able to take a figure, export it out, modify it and make shorts out of it... I think about 4 years ago...  This time I tried with duplicating Jessi, and editing the mesh in P6 (forgot exactly how-I'm at work right now, so I can't look it up and it was about 3 months ago I tried). Something went goofy with the mesh, I think I lost the morphs?

I guess the question would be, so I need the details of the morphs, or will they carry over? I know eventually I need to learn them more.

I have this crazy Idea to model the stroke cycle that my boyfriend, whom is a swim coach teaches, then try to plug it into dartswim, or use in clinics...  What better way to learn the program I had laying around for 3-4 years then to try and make something (hopefully) useful with it :)

Bagginsbill, Thanks for the details! I'll check out what you suggested, see what happens. I hope I can figure out how to get V3 to load in Poser. The suit shape is a lot like what I'm looking for!

Can't wait to get home and try what you guys suggested. Thanks a bunch!

starkdog:  the cut on that jessie bathing suit is really nice - looks great.

conniekat: an alternative, if youre willing to spend a bit, is to pick up free V3 and then buy her bodysuit. her bodysuit has morphs matching all of her stock body morphs, so you could easily morph V3's default shape into something more athletic and then match it up with the bodysuit.

i am not sure if the daz bodysuit has the capability to turn into a 'shorty' wetsuit or something like one, but you could simply hide the calf/lower thigh parts in the heirarchy editor or you could paint up a very primitive transparency map to chop off the arms and legs to make what you need.

cheers,
-gabriel

Hey Blackhearted,

This swimsuit also fits Irina quite well.  Let me know what you think.  I know, I need to fix the piping details.  Hexagon is having a fit with beveling. -Starkdog

Here's the back shot.  Although the suit does rise high on Irina's butt, I've seen this on many athletic women swimmers with powerful legs. -Starkdog
