Happy day everyone! Would anyone know please, why when I choose "Save for Web" in Photoshop CS2 to create a JPEG, my images are becoming MUCH darker than they appear when I'm working on them. I did find that messing around with Color Settings would reproduce the dark look I get when I try to save it for the web, if I set it to "Monitor Color" instead of North American General Purpose 2.

I didn't always have this issue, probably just since I upgraded to CS2. Is there a setting that I need to change? I'm totally stupid about the color management features and have never messed with them.

Thanks for any guidance. I don't even know where to read to solve it.

I am certainly no expert, but at one time I had distorted colors when I used "Save for Web" in PS CS2.  I tried any number of things without success, until I happened upon the little arrow above the left side (your right as you look at screen)  of the Optimized window near the "Save" button.  I clicked that and selected "Uncompensated Color".   Wha La!  My problem was fixed.   The color setting I use is "North American Web/Internet".  I am happy with the results for my purposes of posting my images on the Internet.  I don't know if that will help you, but thought I would mention it, in case it does.

Well, we're not quite there yet after all, haha! I uploaded the image to my ArtZone gallery first and it's still dark on upload. It wasn't in the comparison screen before I saved it. It looked good. I'll bet I messed with something ELSE trying to fix it that should have been left alone. I'm off to see if I can remember what I clicked rolls my eyes.  If anyone has a quick and dirty couple of buttons I need to check I'd be grateful!

I want to get this one right because I painted the CUTEST little outfit with Chevybabe's new tutorial and I'm sooooooo proud of myself and I just need to have it look right. :) It's also on one of Prog's very red backgrounds so it's darkening up way too much.

I have one other thought about your upload.  Did you upload it previously, and delete it because of how it appeared.  If you, delete it again, clear your cashe and upload it again.  Sometimes, if the first one is already in your cashe, uploading again will only produce the first image.

Another thought, start a new image with the new setting already in place in PS, then "Place" the original image in the new one.  Save it as a version 2 or something like that, then try "Save for Web" again using the new settings there.  Upload it again, after clearing your cache, and see if that solves the problem.

I'm just sharing some of my experiments that worked  when I have had problems.

Hi Suzanne, thanks again for trying to help me. I didn't have a prior upload to save over. I tried what you suggested before I uploaded the image here for the first time and pasted it into a new document but that didn't work either. I think I'm going to have to do some serious reading on color management. I think that's where the problem is. Thanks so much for trying to help.

Hello Shelly. Before you do a save for the web try converting the document to the srgb colorspace. If you are working in a larger space such as adobe rgb your colors will be out of gamut for the smaller srgb colorspace that is the standard for internet use. Keep your original in the larger space for printwork and convert to srgb for the web. Hope this helps.
