Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 28 6:42 am)
If you want a good introductory program for doing 3d graphics, and are interested in Poser, take a look at DAZ Studio.
The core program is free, with additional addons available, which you do have to pay a price for, between $3 and $50, if you want something approaching the functionality of Poser 6.
While I prefer Poser, it does have a steep learning curve (I've been using the program for just over 3 years, and there are still parts of it I don't really understand), and the software is beginning to show it's age (no hyperthreading support, poor memory management, 10 year or so code), however I do recommend DAZ Studio for beginners, because the core program doesn't have as much to learn, and frankly the interface is better than Poser's in most cases.
I have a friend, who expressed an interest in 3D art, and he uses DAZ Studio and after about two months is already quite competent with the program, mostly because it's fairly simple when compared to Poser (not a bad thing, a bicycle is simpler than a motorcycle, doesn't make it worse unless you want to travel long distances).
So despite my preference for Poser, I strongly advocate people interested in creating 3D art to start with DAZ Studio. If, once they're comfortable with the program and desire some of the features Poser has that DAZ Studio doesn't, then they can migrate to Poser, and have the hardest part of learning already accomplished (since the programs are cross-compatible in file format and basic file organization).

If you're joking that's just cruel, but if you're being sarcastic, that's even worse.
don't let poser intimidate you. i started poser 8 months ago and to those who knows me in real life - i am the hardest one to teach when it comes to computers. can't teach old dogs new tricks kinda thing but i did surprisingly well as a beginner. i think what modus has suggested is wonderful and well worth the try. i played around daz studio as well before getting poser. good luck hon!
Thanks everyone! I did try out DAZ, but I'm a little confused. Granted I've barely spent like three hours tops with it (I have 4 kids...I get a bit distracted...so not even strait hours) but I managed to get Victoria onto the screen...lol.
Anyway, I think I'll start with this and work my way up to poser...thanks for the advice everyone!!Cheri
trick- get the kids (especially the girls), and set them down in front of it. They'll take to it, you take notes, and Bob's yer Uncle..;) Of course, they're likely to make 'pretzle people' for awhile, but you learn things that way too..;)
It's worth a shot..;)
I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I've wanted to start doing poser for like 2 years now, but never did. I was thinking of buying it, but I don't want to spend the money and get ticked because it's too hard! lol I played with blender a couple years back, and started to do really good after a couple weeks...is it comparable, or way harder??
Anyway, if someone could give me some insite, and maybe some pointers for when I start, that would be great too!
