Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 07 7:37 am)
I like Cararra 5 Pro... It won't do face_off's real skin shaders but with a good texture to start with it ends up looking pretty good in Cararra. That's just my 2 cents! It canbe as slow as FireFly but I think it yields way better results!

Carrara make great renders even in the C5 version i have...
Vue is great to but for using Poser figures .. im not shure.. every time i put one in Vue
the facial expression is gone and some times the whole Pose is gone .. specialy with non orginal Poser figures " the alien drone" all his poses are gone when put in vue so ..it depents on what you want to render....

I don't remember ever losing poses and expressions when importing to Vue from Poser. Is that V5I?
My main problem with exporting to Carrara or Vue is that materials seem to disappear on the way. I am guessing that Vue and Carrara read texture JPGs without any problem, if they are pointed in the right direction, but they can't cope with the nodes and stuff in the Materials Room. Does anyone know if that is correct? Carrara slows down dramatically when it renders hair. Vue takes forever (and then some) over water and reflections, in my experience, but I love the results.
The upcoming Vue 6 is supposed to be able to render poser objects complete with their original poser materials - exactly as they would have looked in Poser. That means things like the real skin shaders will import straight into vue. You're supposed to be able to adjust the pose of the figure right in Vue too. The promo renders they have out look great.

It depends on what your looking for really.
I think Poser does skin the best hands down!
If your looking for Metalics I'd definately try Bryce(Vue too)
If Size are your concern, I've gotten renders twice as large as I could get in Poser, from Vue!
Or if you want hair to look really nice, you can spend $$$$ for 3D Studio Max, Lightwave, or Maya. Then your in good shape to spend $$$$, again, to Network Render(Though Carrara 5 may be a cheap way out of this, as it too now has networking available)
But, when all is said and done, you can't tell me a render engine isn't a render engine compared to a...Render Engine! They all do a super-duper, and many, many times it all comes down to the artist. Until we start squaring Rapid Prototypers and Render Engines, it'll all be the same to me.
I preferer the Learning curve of Poser. It wo'nt break your budget, and gives the more expensive applications a huge run for thier money, in that it has more than you, a newbie, could need, as you both all continue to grow. ANd for the more serious person, leaves room for you to purchase the applications in it's following like, Vue, and Carrara.
