These guys at the Nikon Depot....what a load.... It was only 2 weeks ago I asked about this camera, and they said not a chance.

Some very inviting features. I can't wait to see the price tag.

Thats a bit hit at Canon. I just can't wait to see how Canon is going to "strike back" (think star wars). Form looking at the specs it is definitely aimed at novice users. Doug, your avatar works seamlessly with your post.

@Radlafx...yes, I expect it will steal some 30D sales...unless Canon comes out with something for Photokina as has been rumored.

I also expect this will replace the D70...so the line up will likely be D50, D80 for consumer DSLR and then D200, D2XS for the pro side of things.

Sure like to see a full frame in the works at Nikon though....

Also as expected...the move to SD cards...the rumor that CF has seen it's day may be coming true.

@Doug....the Nikon reps and depot guys live under the "cone of silence"....in more ways than one....

Also, forgot to add...a new 70-300 VR consumer lens was announced...nothing special though....

Have  you tried the link again......nothing on it now.
Maybe they are releasing  some more info on it as we speak.
 I see the D200 won the  Grand Prix 2006 Award.

Ahhh thanks...I was just in the process of comapring power up speeds and  FPS when it suddenly disappeared.
D200=0.15 seconds
D80=0.18 seconds

My D70 just died yesterday :( If it can't be repaired for a reasonable price I might hold out for this one :)

What is the cause of death?....if it's what's known as BGLOD( as defined on their service advisory)....it is covered even if off warranty.

It has all the symptoms of BGLOD, but you never know :/ I'm hoping it is because like you said, it will be repaired free of charge. I already found the page yesterday and have a printout ready to show the shop.
