Subject: Realistic sea water in Carrara 5

craftycurate ( ) posted Wed, 09 August 2006 at 7:48 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 1:27 PM

Has anyone managed to produce fairly photorealistic sea water in Carrara 5? So far have tried ...

  1. Texture maps of real sea water in color, bump, transparency channels
  2. Using displacement mapping
  3. Used a sky dome to get more natural lighting

But can't get anything that looks good enough - certainly not of the quality of certain rivals like Vue.

Any shaders to share? Tips?

Thanks
Richard

Hey Richard,

Though I have not tried it, I have seen images created in Carrara using "Fake Fresnel" effect (from the Eovia PowerPack) or the "Fresnel" effect (which I think is included in Carrara 5) in one of the shader channels. The channels in question may be a combination of Transparency and/or Bump. Forgive me for dangling the proverbial carrot, but I thought this suggestion might get you started in the direction you seek.

I hope that helps!
