THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: propsguild.com

What in the hell is going with propsguild.com? Why don't they make a free login and password deal and then they would know the IP address of the people that is doing all that crap, and then they could ban them from the site. Its not that hard. Why should we all suffer for some one else? I wish they would ask me what needs to be done and I would do it for them. I would write all the scripts and everything free of charge. But they have some stuff I need. I need 2 charaters, but can I get them? No, because some jack ass that just downloaded his pirated version of poser jumped on his cable modem and downloaded all the stuff. What a crock of shit. Well, I'm pissed.

FYI, its just not the Props Guild, its all the sites hosted on Internet Eye's servers, PoserWorld, FairyWoods, PropsGuild, and more. And its not just some person on a cable modem, or some net pirates, its the users here and everywhere else, who refuse to abide by the regulations concerning all the sites by using download accelerators to download everything on all the sites-PoserWorld and Fairywoods being the biggest hit. From what I was told, new scripting is being implemented on all the sites to bock the accelerators and finally put a end to this problem. When this goes into effect all the sites will be back up and functional. Ken

For those not aware of what flax is talking about, Props Guild, Poser World, Fairy Woods, and Schlabber have all reportedly closed their doors, mostly related to bandwidth and hosting problems. Bummer.

I'm pissed too. Went to get a character the other day and...wasn't gonna happen. They need to punish the guilty and not the rest of the world. Almost makes one feel like they are in a school room again where the teacher punishes the class for the pranks of one individual.

There are 10 kinds of people: Those who know binary, and those who don't.

A whiner is about as useful as a one-legged man at an arse kicking contest.

I assure you its not to punish anyone, its to take care of the few(several)users who feel the need to ingore the guidelines and do what they want at those sites. So dont take it out on the Guild.(It wasnt our call anyway, this action was taken by the guys at Internat Eye who were so gracious to offer to host our site. And they host several sites, plus several other commercial sites that are also taking a beating.

I don't use a mass download program (anyway I'm on a steenking dialup and don't have the bandwidth anyway), but there are some sites out there that think I do. I use a proxy server though (my use is to get rid of blinking gif animations) and I have to disable headers in order to download from some sites. Does Propsbuild check for the headers from massdownloaders? I've heard that the mass downloaders change stuff so often that you can't keep up with them anyway for identification (and people like me get locked out if they don't know what to do). But they have disabled the right-click menu at Propsguild and 3DModelworld...and that means we can't take the thumbnails with the downloads. Easy enough to disable Javascript (though it's a pain to enable/disable all the time) but disabling the right click doesn't do squat to stop the mass downloaders so I don't understand why they did it? Anybody know? All I can tell from checking source is that a message is put up about not using mass downloaders, but I don't get that message when I right-click...I just get nothing. Those sites are all slow even without the bandwidth stealing. They force a reload when you hit the backbutton and that takes some bandwidth too. When PW and Fairywoods do an update, you have a couple thousand legitimate people all grabbing about 4-6 files. That's a ton of bandwidth used and even without the mass downloaders I would think they'd have problems. They really need to have their stuff available from more sources.
