Subject: P6 - Some cameras don't animate?

dona_ferentes ( ) posted Fri, 11 August 2006 at 5:55 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 12:36 AM

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a P6 feature, or if I'm just missing something.  It's been a while since I did Poser animation, but I'm almost certain that in previous versions I could keyframe animate the dolly cam, face cam and some others.

But in my current project,  I'm finding that P6 just won't let me insert keyframes for these cameras. I bring up the keyframe window, select the frame I want, click to add a keyframe, and absolutely nothing happens.

Surely the dolly should animate?  And yes, I do have 'animating' selected in the properties box for these cameras.  I'm probably just forgetting something very basic, but I'd be really grateful if someone would remind me what it is!

Please, please don't tell me that this is a P6 bug!!!

Just tested and my Dolly camera animates as you would expect. Set key frames, animation on/off the whole nine yards. Try a reboot ???

Thanks, PhilC.

I've been doing a few tests.  A reboot doesn't fix the problem, but thankfully it's confined to this one file (and its derivitives).  When I start a new file, I can animate all the cameras - but something must have got messed up in this one as the posing, dolly, face and hand cams all refuse to keyframe.

I'm using the main camera for just about everything as a workaround.  It's a minor inconvenience, but I'm relieved that it's a problem with this file, rather than with Poser!

Thanks again.

With the camera selected (not just as the active camera but selected in the properties window), did you check Object:Lock Actor?

Hi,

No, that doesn't seem to be it either - I've just checked, and none of them are locked.  In all respects, those cameras are acting as if 'animate' was unchecked in their properties box, but that's not the case.

I'd love to know what's going on here - I still haven't ruled out the possibility that I'm overlooking something simple and obvious .  But now that I know that it's confined to this one file, I'm happier about the situation.

Another possibility that is easy to overlook..

Just under the RH Hand Icon in the camera controls is a key, which controls "Animation On/Off".
(NOTE - this is DIFFERENT from Actor->Lock).
If this key is red (well, pinkish) then the cam won't animate. If it is grey (gray for yanks), then it will...
In either case the camera can be moved (if it's not locked), but if Animation is off, then the movement is only applied to frame 1 (and is fixed there for the rest of the animation).

If it's not that, then I have absolutely idea..

Cheers,
Diolma

Diolma...

Well spotted. That's exactly what it was.  I've never used that feature, and in fact had forgotten what the icon was for!  I can only assume I must have clicked it by accident while doing other things (seems unlikely, but I can't think of any other explanation!)

Anyway, that was the problem.

Thanks!
