Subject: Vicky 2.0 and a question (well, rant really) on Vicky in general

Deal ( ) posted Wed, 18 April 2001 at 4:56 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 4:45 PM

I was thinking of buying Vicky..then I see there is going to be a new version soon...doesnt that really suck for people who just purchased Vicky? How about all the Vicky clothes, morphs textures, etc. that poeple have made....will they work with Vicky 2.0? Also is there like a trial period with Vicky? What if I buy her and than I say say "Hmmmm, ya know, I dont think she is worth an extra $60.00 -on top of the price of Poser, not to mention the clothes pack because all the wonderfull free posette clothes wont work with Vicky- of my hard earned cash"(I KNOW I KNOW HIGHLY UNLIKELY)......can I return her? I just use Poser for fun....is it worth it? And how about the Voluptuous Vicky stuff? Will they work with Vicky 2.0? When I see the great images using her posted here.....They make me want to get her...but then all these things enter my mind. Ditto on Michael!!!! Whats next a Michael 2.0(Im sure there will be). Anyway, any thoughts or comments on the matter will be apprieciated!!!!TIA

DAZ is a good company with very high customer support ratings. My guess is that they would try to work with you if you weren't happy with Vicki. I think Vicki 2.0 is supposed to work with all previous Vicki releases plus also work with Posette's stuff too. Yes, buying stuff just before it is upgraded does suck. What about all those people who just bought Windows ME to discover that Windows XP is coming out? Again, DAZ works well with their customers and will probably create some sort of less expensive upgrade path for those that just purchased Vicki. Perhaps some software companies would allow you to "return" the software and receive your money back and perhaps DAZ is one of them. However, from my personal perspective I don't see how that makes good business sense. Once someone puts software on their computer how can the company be sure you actually removed it? In terms of Vicki being worth it, it all depends on what you want to do with Poser. If you look around in the galleries and see what other people are doing I think you'll find that if your hobby involves needing accurate, human like, close-up faces, Vicki will be well worth it. If all of your figures are seen at a distance or accuaracy is not so important then perhaps not. According to information supplied by DAZ Michael 2.0 is on the drawing board.

Vicky 2.0 will be able to wear Vicky 1.0 clothes and also will be able to wear Posette's clothes as well. I am not sure if all the different morphs will work, but DAZ is include a whole lot more morphs with Vicky 2.0. I guess everyone is waiting to see what works and what does not. I do not think DAZ has a return policy but I have heard they are very easy to work with, so there may be some possible solution reached if you are not satisfied with Vicky. There a posting a few weeks back on the front page about the design on the new Vicky by one of the designers at DAZ; I am terrible with names and forgot who it was. I hope this helps, Sam

Save your money and get Azura or Eve4 for free. Theyre a lot better than Vicky IMHO, however there is slight deformation around the hip area due to the genitals. You can fix it by applying a smooth genital morph available from their site or by post-rendering in a paint proggie. I know I'm going to get it for this, but I really dont think that Vicky is worth the money -- not when there are equal or better models for free.

Well on the other hand I still can't see that much use for Eve or Azura .. really ... I like Vicki for the most part and think I will like two better ... Eve and Azura are far too limited for my tastes ...

I had eve for a while but I do love the Voluptuous Vicky model. I think she makes a better shapely busty fem than Eve. Plus P4 will never match Vicky as far as facial expressions, period. I've seen P4s that look awesome but Vicky stuff can blow them away. I think people have to realize that Vicky is a clean break. They say V2 will work with p4 clothes but others in the store already have MT and magnet packs that make most of the clothes fit Vickie anyway. Plus I guarentee you that a P4-ized Vicky will not work as well as the orginal. It can't be more than a compromise. I think they should have put Vicky's head on the p4 body like someone else did. That would have solved most of the delemas.

Vic 2 is Victoria. Same morphs, same textures, same poses, same clothing, same props... Victoria 2 is about morphs. A lot more morphs - more morphs, more variety. What it will mean is that Victoria characters can not be provided in the same sloppy way that they are now, either as free or for sale. Victoria 2 is the CR2 - the geometry for V1 and V2 is the same. In character CR2 files, the DAZ morphs added by Vic 2 will have to be removed, but in all instances, the only shape morphs in the Cr2 should be the single combined morph for each group. There IS also a new geometry and a separate CR2 provided with Vic 2 which will be the figure which accepts the P4 clothing. The textures and head morphs are interchangable, as are morphs for the groups at the distal portions of the limbs. If you do not already have Victoria, DAZ has suggested that you wait to purchase Victoria until V2 is released. Certainly, the upgrade will be less than the full figure, but V1 + upgrade is likely to be a bit more than a full boat V2 with geomery - even if the addition is only the S&H for two rather than one. Now, for Poser, for human figures, Victoria and Michael are the state of the art. The other figures can come close sometimes, but if you want to start without unnecessary handicaps, these two figures are the ones to use.

Mason, You say that people have MTs that will make P4 clothes fit Vicky. Are there any MTs that will make Vicky clothes fit Posette?

WarriorDL ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 1:42 AM

{quoting ol Jaager here} There IS also a new geometry and a separate CR2 provided with Vic 2 which will be the figure which accepts the P4 clothing. The textures and head morphs are interchangable, as are morphs for the groups at the distal portions of the limbs. {end quote of ol Jaager here} ...hmm Like I suggested much earlier in another thread when Vic2 was announced. Sure sounds like a take off of Polyette :o)

Jaager ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 4:01 AM

Polyette is a chimera = Vicki's head on Posette's body? This one is all Vicki, except that the body is morphed to match Posette (a nightmare job) and then the groups redefined to match the Posette structure. The result is the same, except that Vicki's textures work on the new geometry. Polyette was probably much, much easier to do. Part of the reason might be that there are sectors of the market for these figures that are not evident in the Poser forums. We just may not be the whole of it. Adapting the figure to match the clothing is certainly more efficient than try to adapt an open ended number of clothing items. Having the choice of going either way is good for the customers even if it is an annoyance to lose sole posession of the territory. I am curious to see just what JCM they come up with. They have saved me the bother of doing a corpulent Vicki, which direction is opposite my personal taste in morphology.

I don't know about all this "fitting whatever's clothing on whoevers body" stuff. While I'm sure Vickie 2 will be worthwhile, especially for people who haven't yet bought regular Vickie, I've never been all that happy about switching clothing to another figure. I did some conversion CR2s for regular Vickie's clothing to fit Supermodel Vickie, and I wasn't at all impressed with the results (which is why they aren't yet available). Now Vickie and SMV have the same joints, in about the same places, and they are much, much closer than Vickie and the Posette, but the build is totally different, and it is hard to get good results when the figure actually starts bending the limbs. I try and fit my garments very exactly, and while they tend to have a tight fit, even a loose garments will be tight on the contact points. To fit clothing to another figure with differend bend parameters and joint settings results in either poke-through or unnatural looseness.

WOW thanks for all the input....now I really dont know what to do.......8^) Thanks!

WarriorDL ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 2:27 PM

Jaager, with whatever program Daz uses to map their figures- They could remap Polly to match the texturing of Vickie as well. I think the only difference between the two will be- The new Vickie/P4 clothes wearing OBJ will have more polys than the P4 body Polly uses. Otherwise, it's the same thing- A figure created to use Vickie head morphs and wear P4 clothing. At any rate though, I honestly think (Daz will probably say other wise, but...) that the Polly figure may have had some influence on their decision to make this Vickie 2 like that :o)

Phantast ( ) posted Fri, 20 April 2001 at 5:11 AM

One thing I don't like about Vicky is that she's such a pain to import into Bryce. I understand the need to make the head texture a separate file, but it was a bad design decision to put the interior mouth parts in the body texture. It makes it uneccessarily hard to select all the body parts that use each texture file. A little more thought could have avoided this problem.

Jim Burton ( ) posted Fri, 20 April 2001 at 10:07 AM

Phantast- Good point, I've thought that it would be useful to have a Vickie remapped with the two existing maps side-by side, it would make life simplier in general. There would be no quality loss with (say) a 3072 x 1536 map compared to two 1536 x 1536 maps.
