Subject: V3 Phoneme Sounds?

Angelouscuitry ( ) posted Thu, 17 August 2006 at 8:50 PM · edited Mon, 20 January 2025 at 1:03 PM

Would anyone please try to list a few of the top Phonemes along with what words they sound like?

I have a young lady interested in doing a photo shoot with me.  I intend to use the images with my V3 figure.  I origionally planned on just getting a few shots of her portrait/profile while lay, kneeling, and standing, but I figure while we're at it I might as well have her make Phoneme expressions.  My problem is what each Phoneme sounds like.  I still have Mimic 2, but just hav'nt gotten into it yet.  I know this adds to the list of phonemes available, but many of them still don't seem like simple parts of English speach?

Hiya, Your best bet would be to load up V3 and see what's there. They are pretty common sounds. A, F, M, O, U, CH, SH, TH, (Tongue) L and (Tongue) T. Sound them out in the mirror. 😄 Richard ;-)~

They are also listed in Mimic along with possible variations. You could load one at a time and see what they look like on V3 while reading their associated phoneme sound. Then make a few words and see how they morph. Mimic rox!

Thank you RAMWolf, do you think these are the only phonemes available?

"while reading their associated phoneme sound"  This is what I remember having a lot of trouble with!  Trying to read what sounds Mimic is trying to represent, without any examples is REALLY tough.  I think even if I installed Mimic, again(on this PC,) I'd still just be staring at the list.  I'm wondering if you've used many and how?

Hiya, I'm sure there are some out there that have mouthed pronounceations for E, I, Y which are the remaining vowels and I'm sure there are others but I don't know who's got them included with their figures. There is Apollo, Anton's figure and he did extensive phomemes for him. If you have Apollo you might want to fire him up and see if you can recreate some of those for whatever figure your planning on using! 😄

Thanks again RamWolf!  I'm planing on using V3.

I wonder if there would be any differance to making a phoneme from making an MOR.pz2, maybe vertex to exclude/include?

I'd guess it  could need to be an Face/Expression.FC2, but I think I've seen them that can change a figure's character all together?

Or if you could only use other phonemes to do it?

I wonder becasue a phoneme should'nt change the shape of a figures face from one character to another, only move the mouth, lips etc. somehow?

RAMWorks ( ) posted Sun, 20 August 2006 at 1:50 PM

Correct. I don't do the coding thing so I'm not sure how to create one but I would imagine if your using Poser use the Timeline and start with the face camera up close and the mouth closed, move the time line to the end and apply your phoneme or twist the dials so the mouth is making an expression of say "E" and then run the time line and whatch the mouth going from a closed position to pronouncing "E". I think you can save that final "E" as a new morph by using the "Spawn Morph" and once you have them all saved as new dials then save that as a new cr2 and Poser will add all those new dials to the new cr2 for V3! 😄 If I'm wrong about that or there is a better way I hope someone will log in and read through this and post so you can be on your way to getting this project going! PS: I use DAZ Studio, I own Poser but I don't care for it all that much! 😉 Richard ;-)~

When you load Mimic and play back, there is your chosen character with the lips forming the phonemes, the representation of the audio wav file, and a **complete track listing all of the phonemes associated with the sounds being used to animate the characters lips**. I don't know what you'd be staring at particularly other than exactly what you keep asking for. You can scrub the tracks forwards & backwards, you can expand the tracks for more detail, you have an additional listing of all available phonemes with all their variations and what they sound like when they are used in English words. You can replace phonemes, you can modify phonemes, you can stretch or shorten phonemes, etc, etc, etc....

It doesn't get any easier!

Fuaho, I don't know about Mimic 2 which is the version she mentions having, But there is no window showing your figure like that in Mimic 1 which is what I have. It might be prudent to not assume she's looking at what you probably have with Mimic 3 if you've never had Mimic 2.

I never got as far as loading the track.  I could see the Phoneme pallette, with all of the phonomes, but I never have been able to understand why dictoionaries have a serperate phonetic spelling for things.  I'd been hoping this would be clearer i.e. explaining phonetics, or doing away woth them. But Mimic 2...does'nt seem to do either, nor did anyone even really just strees Vowels sounds.

But, thanks for showing me Mimic 3, I'll have to give her a whirl!  As soon as I think of some good examples to throw it's way..

Aha, I did'nt know loading the track would list the phonemes.  I just saw the palette list...

This is great, now I'll have examples!
