Sounds like something went screwy with your cache. I recommend CleanUp from here, otherwise you could try manually deleting your cache. Have you got enough diskspace left?

Yes, very interesting. There's just one problem with your suggestion - I can't download anything!!!!
Oh and there's plenty of room on the disk - I just re-formatted the hard drive and there's bog all on it yet.
Doesn't windows already have a clean-up anyway?

Guess who's feeling stupid now...
In any case, does clearing your cache help at all? Have you got a different brower to try under?

Well... just as I was replying to your suggestion - Ian phoned me. (I'd fotgotten he gets half day off on wednesdays)
So I cried down the phone at him - what a long suffering chap he is - brilliant too as you'll now hear.
He said what you do is go offline, use Explore, go to Program Files/mozilla.org/seamonkey/components/ and delete the file in there called:compreg.dat - close explore and you're done - I tried it and abracadabra! It worked!!!
It was a problem with an earlier version of seamonkey but I still had it because I installed seamonkey from the external hard drive instead of copying the seamonkey.exe file to my C drive before installing it...
It's these little things that can trip you up.
This is great, It means I can now go download Bryce5 for free (lost the CD somewhere and may not find it before I have to leave for college) and thus have a back up - even though I have 5.5c.
Nice to have back-ups.
Thanks Mahray very very much for trying to help. If Ian hadn't rung I would have tried FireFox next as you suggested so thus would at least have been able to narrow the fault down to SeaMonkey. But as it is, I'm cured.
I wonder what the next fault will be???

Well... it initially seemed to be a non-permanent fix as when I turned the laptop off and started it again I still had the 'can't download' problem - so I deleted that .dat file again amd could download... but...
So instead, while I COULD download I went to the mozilla site and downloaded the same version of seamonkey - it was the latest anyway - but this time put it on my laptop's C drive.
Went off line, control panel/ add- remove programs. Removed seamonkey and all it's bits.
Installed seamonkey from the previously downloaded file on the c drive, turned everything off, (Laptop) turned it on again and attempted to download something... this time it worked without having to delete that .dat file.
So hopefully everything is okay now...

I've had similar problems with some sites as I don't allow popups or cookies. you can override this action on a site by site basis.(not sure how in sea monkey) also temporarily turning off the firewall starting the download and turning the firewall back on while the dl is going on has worked for me.
Turns out I'm not cured, and I don't think it's anything to do with seamonkey. Blinkin' laptop is back in London. They rang to leave a message saying it's fixed, but personally I don't believe a word of it.

I know this is totally OT but you guys are all so clever with Computerish stuff, maybe someone can help.
I'm desperate.
I get this error message every time I try to download anything at all from the net (although my antivirus, BitDeffender and ZoneAlarmPro - my firewall, both seem able to download okay)
This is the message:

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.
