Interesting. What do you mean by "work better"? I haven't noticed a problem using the P5 files in Poser 6.

I've had some MAT poses that just wouldn't apply in the P5 version but would with the PP versions, strange but true!
In reality these are a small number compared to the amount I have and I know I "should" covert them to "material collections" etc. but I prefer working in the main window to apply my MAT poses rather than having to go into the Material room!

Ahhh, I see. I haven't run into that problem yet. The items that I've deleted files from I've used already so I know that the P5 version works well.
When I install an item, I save the original .exe or .zip file to a separate batch of CDs for "Installed Content" based on my runtime themes, so if I run into a problem it's easy enough to locate the item again.
I'll go ahead and delete the P4 content and only the PP content for stuff I've used and know the P5 files work ok.
It's good to know that there are isolated cases where one version's files work better than another though. Thanks for that information.

I know what you mean. I've gone through about 1/2 of my runtime, and deleted folders with nothing in them, .rsr files, and all of my p4 files....and, the base content that came with p4 and p5, because, well, when do I use them? :P

I have to go through the poser 6 runtime and delete files after my last install. I used to only do the bare basic install for the program, and then Wardrobe Wizard came along and now I like to have the P4 and P5 figures so that I can convert clothing and hair, and you don't get those when you do the bare basic install. As for Jessie and Don and the props etc, I've never used that stuff. I don't even know what all is there.

More stuff to remove are all those .rsr files in your geometries folder.
And the stuff that's really eating disk space... bump maps in .bum format.
If you've been working with P4 in the past, you'll find plenty.
Before deleting them, make sure you still have the .jpg version of your bump map.
Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
.bum files are simple to convert to jpgs ... just change the extension since they're just .bmp files with a different extension. You can change them to .bmp format, open them in an image editor and save a .jpg or just change the extension to .jpg.

I think Phantast means changing it from a BUM map BUM to a gray-scale Bump JPG. Changing the extension is easy. Converting the specialized two-channel red/green normal map into a gray-scale map is not so easy - requires integration (Calculus). It can be done, but there is no perfect conversion.

Everytime I install something, I go in and delete any duplicate files for different Poser editions, and convert any .rsr files in the library folders into .png and delete the .rsr. It definitely serves to keep the folder size down.
And msg24_7, from what I've heard, .rsr files in the geometries folders are recreated by Poser if they're not there when you start the program up. Or at least, they used to be.

I have my Runtime folders on 2 hard drives and out of curiosity I did a "Files and Folder Search" of my old hard drive which only has runtime folders on it.
The total showed 982 files!!!
Not all can be deleted because some are things for "P4 Female", and it picked up on files whose name had a "p4" in it. But very many can be deleted. I've gone through several of the folders already and have deleted 382 files so far.
I did the same thing for my other hard drive, and those runtimes came up showing 940 files with "P4" in them. Again, not all can be deleted because I have the files for "P4 Woman" and "P4 Man" on that drive, but many can and will be deleted.
While I was deleting P4 files, I deleted the "PP" ones as well if there were P5 files for the same item.
I predict freeing up quite a bit of hard drive space! :)
I thought I was being careful when I installed things and had been deleting the files for versions I didn't need, but I guess I missed a few! LOL
