Subject: Long Hair Evolution Install Issues

BEMT ( ) posted Sun, 27 August 2006 at 1:39 PM · edited Sat, 15 February 2025 at 6:57 AM

Hello, I'm new to Poser, and I see that there have been other posts about issues figuring out how to install stuff, but I haven't seen this particular one before and hoping someone can assist.

I have downloaded and installed V3 just fine. I visited digitalbabes2.com and downloaded "Long Hair Evolution" for V3 and "Short Hair Evolution" as well. I downloaded the .zip files, placed them in the Poser folder and unzipped 'em. "Short Hair Evoltion" now appears in the Hair->Kozaburo folder, and I can use it just fine (so far). But no sign of "Long Hair Evolution" anywhere. I've tried deleting all of the downloaded files and re-installing them various places, to no avail.

Anybody have any idea what I might be doing wrong, or where exactly "Long Hair Evolution" might be ending up?

Any help greatly appreciated...

You might find it in your Figures folder, that's where mine was placed.

Thank you for the suggestion - it reminded me that Poser sometimes places things where one might not intuitively expect them to be. However, after checking the Figures folder, I was unable to locate it. I checked all of the folders thoroughly (I think) and still no luck.

Surely it must be SOMEwhere, no?

Did you look in zip file to see how the directory structure is set up?  The copy of the Long Hair Evo that I have is set up to install into a folder named LongHair_evo_V1-3_PC instead of going directly into my runtime.

Thank  you for your response.

The Readme file begins with this:

"Long Hair Evolution  for DAZ-3d  Victoria 1-3  by kozaburo

Installation:
Copy the contents of the 'LongHair_evo_V1-3_PC' directory that you have unzipped
directly into your Poser directory.

File location:
Runtime:Geometries:hair:koz_long_evo.obj"

I assume this is what you're asking about? I'm not sure how this helps me locate it: There is no Library folder called "Geometries" that I can find within Poser, and the file is not located in the "Hair" folder anywhere.

If I misunderstand where exactly I'm supposed to be looking, please clarify. I do appreciate the help!

Yes, I have the same as Chris Cox.   In fact, I still have the files as originally installed incorrectly (no wonder my runtime moves like lead at -200 degrees), as well as the ones I must have copied to the correct location.

If this is Windows, you will probably have a folder path looking something like

C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6LongHair_evo_V1-3_PCRuntime

(If it's on a Mac, I believe that you need to be extremely careful to avoid obliterating your existing directories, so the following advice is for Windows only.)

In this, you will have three folders:  Geometries, libraries and textures.   Geometries contains a single subfolder called hair.   You should move that to

C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6RuntimeGeometries .

The folder libraries contains character and Pose.   Move the Kozaburo folder from character to

C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6Runtimelibrariescharacter

and move the folder MAT LongHair_evolution from the Pose folder to

C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6RuntimelibrariesPose .

Finally, move the Kozaburo folder from

C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6LongHair_evo_V1-3_PCRuntimetextures

to

C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6Runtimetextures .

Naturally, if Poser is not on your C-drive, or is in a path other than Program Files, those details will need to be edited.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!

That did the trick! I have no freaking idea how everyone else in the world managed to figure out all that file-moving-around... I hope to Jebuz not all the content I download is that involved!

Thank you again: much, much appreciated!

Most installations will go straight into the correct folders under Poser 6Runtime, if you unzip to the Poser 6  folder, and they will then be immediately accessible..

BUT...

You may want to consider setting up separate runtimes at this point, e.g. for different characters.   There are various threads in the forum about that and I am certainly not the best person to offer advice on that subject.   While my separate runtimes work OK,  I do have to go through a rigmarole similar to the above when I install anything new.   I generally install to Poser 6 and then move the files from libraries to the corresponding locations in my separate runtime, while leaving any Geometries or textures folders in their locations as initially installed.

The advantage of separate runtimes is that it speeds up Poser quite a bit in the creative stage (it won't affect render times).  If everything goes into the same runtime, you can end up with a Pose folder, in particular, which takes an age to load and is a nightmare to navigate.

Some of the Koz hair is a bit clumsily packaged. I just unzip it on my desk top. repackage it. rezip it and install it from there.

Thank you for the continued suggestions: as I get comfortable with Poser (if I ever do), I will be sure to consider breaking things up into related groups.

As I get to grips with this thing, you guys may be hearing more desparate whining from me in the future, so get prepared...

Somewhat off-topic:  you know:  I am 99% certain that SoCalRoberta's comment was visible when I entered my last post, so how is it that mine appears first???
