Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
Notice the edges, some say you can't have proper edges with dynamic clothing. ;-) You do have to put the seam detailing in as a displacement map though, otherwise Poser just flattens it out. You can just about see the seams here, I also break the UV mapping in the same place, so patterns go on just like the prototype.
So, mini, midi or Maxi?
I just finished a render with the "sitting" morph, here it is. I set it to collide against both GJ and the wall she is sitting on. Notice how Poser seems to do a different material on the "inside" of the cheongsam, almost like it has a lining.
Anyway, as you can see, it drapes a lot better than the one above, the morph is a big help. Using the morph, she is already sitting in Frame one, instead of being zeroed, so Poser has a lot less work to do.
If I had P6, I'd say go for the longest one too. Looks the most authenthic and kinda unusual in the world full of half-nekkid Poser females ;) Short versions will sell anyway, just because of revealing clothing being worshipped by the masses :) (at least judging by the stores and galleries)

The others can have the long version if that's what they REALLY want, but for myself, GIVE me the short version, it's much more sexier. If I want to look at long Mother Hubbards, I'll go visit Mea Shaarim in Jerusalem.

Maxi please Jim, it's easier to adapt it - if you wanted a shorter version a transmap could do it, though the long version looks very classy

My aspiration: to make a decent Poser Render I'm an Oldie, a goldie, but not a miracle worker :-)
I, too, vote for the Maxi (longest) version.
It's more versatile.
It's simple enough to shorten dresses, either via trans-maps or by obj-mangling, but lengthening is another matter altogether:-))
I do a lot of mangling. It's part of my hobby. And I hasten to add, should I ever mangle one of your meshes, Jim (whether free or bought) for anything other than my own personal never-to-be-seen-except-on-my-own-PC images, I will contact you to ask permission...
But I love playing in the Cloth Room. Someday I'll achieve something...
Cheers,
Diolma
Why eveyone prefers Mother Hubbard, when Sexy Sadie is just as freely available is beyond my ability to understand. Life is too short as it is, and all too soon we're all fat, old and ugly. Why do we need to incorporate that aspect into our art?

Maybe for some people life's too short to waste it on rendering same almost naked dollies back and forth ? ;) Besiedes, the long cheongsam is far more sexy than the one leaving nothing for imagination :)

Maxi! it's way much easier to clip the mesh or use transmap to have any desired length than glueing polys to the mini version to make it longer :) Especially if it is a dynamic dress. (yes, we want it all and we want it for free, sorry Jim =^^=) kitty5

Here is a pic of the midi one, so you can see what your missing. ;-) There will also be a for-sale version with all 3 lengths, plus some more textures and morphs. I think I'm also going to do a bundle with GJ's Stilettos, as there are no shoes in the set(s). They work well with the dress, as you can see.
Incidently, I did a "small breast" morph for the dresses, which is used here. GJ, like most of the Poser Gals, has rather large breasts, and if you just adjust them smaller in the simulation the fabric doesn't drape very well. With the morph you can sort of have her breasts "expand" into the dress, for any breast setting smaller than default0 this one uses "Size_Small" and "SuperStar", both set to .5 in the final frame. This morph WILL be in the freebee, incidently!
There actually is a full edge around all the openings, at the neck, arm openings and around the bottom. It extends in (thickness) then returns back on the inside the width of the edge piping. I made it a separate material, so it could be put into the Soft Decorated group but it doesn't seem to need that, it runs through the cloth simulation fine. I do use bump mapping on the side seams, though.
You can see it in this close-up. Also note the detailing (and the two colors) on the Frogs, trick, what?
Anyway, the edges are going to make it difficult to transmap the dress shorter, I'm sorta hoping people will by the full version, instead. ;-)
Question Mr. Burton: Will I be able to use this in Pro Pack too? My son bought me a NEW Duel core computer, with a 160 gig Hard Disk and 50? Mg RAM, so I can now run my Poser 6 too. Nut I find its interface uncomfortable and extremely cluttered. I prefer the simplicity of P4, with its much less crowded work area, and which allows me to work easily with a pose window of 640x480 px. I actually was able to decode and import HiRes Jessi too into P4, where she works nicely. There's none of the sluggishness that I used to endure on my old computer.
Therefore, I'd like to know whether I can use this dress in PP, or whether it's strickly a P6 affair.
Yours truly,
Daid P. Hoadley
PS: I like the detail of the metal clasps. This looks much more developed than the original Posette version.

Because you need to use the Cloth Room to make it fit this one is P-6 (and P-5) only.
I did make a full-conforming one for Ingenue Vickie, which I sell at DAZ, it was more involved than anything I've ever set up- it has about 20 JCM channels for the legs that do different things, depending on how she moves them. I wanted to have it work like the prototype, when she moves her knee forward the front of the dress moves forward, but not the back, behind the slit. Wasn't easy!

I'm doing three versions of the cheongsam, mini, midi and maxi, only one is going to be free, though, which one would you rather have?
The Maxi, shown, is the one I was thinking of, it is floor length, actually it would drag on the floor if Glamorous Jessi wasn't wearing heels. I've never done a long cheongasam, due to the problems with long conforming dresses in Poser, but this will be dynamic, which solves 'em.
