THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Avatar Question

Lown ( ) posted Tue, 29 August 2006 at 2:25 AM · edited Mon, 23 September 2024 at 1:10 AM

Hi, i know this is probably not the right forum, but im a Bryce user so what the hell. How does everyone have such cool looking pics next to their name? Thats their avatar right? It has to be 100x100 pixels right? So how do you get it to NOT look like something made from Duplo (Thats jumbo Lego for babys, for those who dont know!!)

Thanks

You need to find a good avatar that will suit you...  then find a program that will re-size it for you...

I use Paint shop pro for prepping my images.....     Is this what you are asking?

If not be more specific......

Well yeah, I have photoshop 7, but when I resize the image to 100x100 pixels it looks really pixelated and blocky!!

Basically, this becomes a PS question, but what are you starting with? Lou.

Post it here and we'll copy it and re-size it for you.....unless of course it's rubbish...

It depends on quite a few things, like where you made the avatar in the first place and what the image was first saved as - best to save as bmp to begin with - if made in Bryce - if made in PhotoShop save as .psd until you have it as you want it, and do one resize to 100x100 as a jpg - that way you're not getting the image more and more pixelated if you keep on saving as a jpg - it's known as a lossy format as it looses information with every save - that's why you get it pixelated.

I have PS CS, not PS7. Make sure you are using 'bicubic' or 'bicubic smoother' for the resizing.
I haven't had problems with pixelation during resizing. Of course, if you are shrinking a very large image down to 100x100, degredation is to be expected.

Are you sure that the pixelation isn't happening during final save with the lossey .jpg format?
I get the type of pixelation you are describing if using higher compression (lower quality).

Mine was just a Poser pic I tried once of a Pakled, then scaled down in Gimp (free, sort of a Photoshop clone, Joe Bob says 'check it out'..;) and that's how that got started..;)

Lown,

That's okay, I'm often a moron - unfortunately not an "OriginalMoron"  (who is actually a very good modeler)

Hey, Pakled!  What's a pakled?  I've often wondered.

From the Star Trek Next Generation show "Samaritan Snare" (I think..850 episodes, I could be wrong..;) The Pakled were an alien race that weren't too bright; yet borrowed, stole, or 'acquired' technology sufficient to begin exploring space. They're known for such literary asides as 'we are not smart', or 'make it go'..;)

There's a wealth of information on Star Trek (the amount equals or exceeds the amount of prawnography out there..I think..;) Go to Ex Astris Scientia, and I think there's info there, or just Google 'pakled'..;)

Ah, I see.  I never really liked the next gen stuff as much as the original.  So I missed that.  Thanks, now I know.
