Subject: I made the character, now what?

ashlyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 April 2001 at 3:35 AM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 10:55 AM

OK, I have made and saved a new character as a .pz3 file. When I reopen it, all additions are there as well. All morphs show as the name that I gave them, not the actual character name. I want to share her with you guys here because it's my first attempt and I think she worked out ok. How do I do that? I used Alice Hair and a whole stack of morphs. Would the new user have to have those morphs for it to work? I know about the hair. As I understand it, I have to save all the character files, textures, geometries and ??? is there any more? Many thanks from this newbie...

You should be fine. It's nice to have the morphs to use with other figures, we don't need them. With the obj files and textures, the PZ3 should work.

i know it keeps file sizes slightly smaller, but i think its really silly that when you save a files as a pz3 document it doesnt save textures/objects. it doesnt make them very portable, does it? i think that these days, when everyone has MINIMUM 20 gbs of storage space AND a cd burner, we could have made these files store the textures and objects and make them truly portable. the only time that the textures/obj files go over a meg is if you save the textures in .tiff format at high resolutions, but everyone uses .jpeg anyways because there is no noticeable difference when you map it onto a model and .jpegs are 1/20th the size.

It just saved that way, I didn't get a choice! I tried to add her to my character library and it automatically saved as pz3. I am very new at this and only just learning as I go, so I really have very little idea what I am doing. Just blindly clicking away really! I will get around to reading all the info one day, I promise..

darchangel; You said: "i think that these days, when everyone has MINIMUM 20 gbs of storage space AND a cd burner, we could have made these files store the textures and objects and make them truly portable." If the pz3 did that, then it would break copyright laws every time somebody posted one to share with us. Cheers

Open the character library. Select the figure - for right now select Body - at the bottom of the library list is a (+) use this to save a figure to the library. Now it will be a CR2 and not a PZ3. Especially as a beginner, you are unlikely to offer anything new in thw way of cameras, lights etc. , so a PZ3 will only interfere with the preferred setup of other users. Open the CR2 in Morph Manager 4. Combine all the morphs that you used to make the figure into one morph for each group and then delete the morphs that were used to produce the figure. There should only be one morph per group, except for the head, where you should keep the expression morphs. For the head, do not combine the expression morphs, only use construction morphs. smile, blink, worry - if you use these - it will make face poses misbehave when used on the figure.

If I add 2-3 of my computers together I can get 20GIGs. Hmmm... 4 will get me up to 26GIGs... where's my DOSbox! Folks shouldn't assume that everyone has massive amounts of storage or the latest peripherals. Even a year old computer is obsolete these days, and most of us can't upgrade every year. Carolly

I just got a second hard drive cause my pissy old 1.9 gigs was just about full, especially since I discovered Poser. Now I get to fill the new one too!!! Well I had the burner all along but that doesn't really make a difference. Don't really know why I got it in the first place! Was going to get a whole new computer but all I need now is more RAM and I've replaced the whole thing.. Gotta start saving again!!
