Subject: POSER 5 - FREE!!!

BUSHY8996 ( ) posted Sat, 02 September 2006 at 7:38 AM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 10:08 AM

I have in the past purchased Poser4,5 and 6 - 5 & 6 were upgards. However I still had to pay for them and postage to the UK. Therefore when I read that they were giving Poser 5 for free Iwasn't that happy and felt a bit rpped off really as I wold have expected CP to give something back to the people that have been loyal to Poser and forked out hard earned cash for the software.

Does anyone else feel this way - or is it me being uptight??

Bushy

CP Is givnig away Poser 5 for FREE which IS giving back to the community. Yes, you're being uptight. Grab a second license while you can! You never know when it might come in handy on a second or third computer!

I was feeling a bit miffed as I paid for P5 too, BUT the second license will come in very handy :D

We all pay big money for things that eventually become worthless.
What about cars?  We pay thousands for them and eventually
all they are worth is the price of scrap metal.  Computers.
How many of us paid a thousand dollars for one with a
286 preocessor?  How much is one of those worth today?
With Poser 5 we paid a few hundred a few years ago and
we have had years worth of fun with it.  Now E-Frontier
is giving away an obsolete version they no longer even
sell so other people can have fun with it.  The alternative
would be to just scrap it and not let anyone have access
to it anymore.

Some things CP has done in past have annoyed me but this hasn't.If I'd bought Poser 6 at the full price last week I might have been upset but not ripped off.

I was unlucky enough to eventually buy Vue5 a few days before they announced the free upgrade to Vue6 for all purchases. I was a bit upset but knew there was nothing I could do. Just bad luck on my behalf

How do you get P5 for free?

Good! I warned all my friends.

Does this herald Poser 7?

shedofjoy ( ) posted Sat, 02 September 2006 at 7:04 PM

i payed for Poser5 but im not worried at all that its now free, i payed £14,000 for my car and now 9 years down the line its worth about £1,000, my first DX50 intel processor cost me £600 and now is worth less than 10p.... Thats life im happy because as is mentioned in this thread its a second license and when P7 or P8 allows rendering to be done across computers and the need for more Poser licenses arrises i will already have some in storage....yipee......

lets hope P7 is something wonderfull....hmmm....

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

A little word of warning..... Luckily everyone has 10 attempts at downloading Poser5, BUT because the servers are overloaded when you do get a "save to" and you start downoading you end up with a box appearing saying

"Internet explorer cannot download setup.exe from www.content paradise.com.

the connection with the server was reset"

Thankyou so much, i only downloaded 2mb's and on the second attempt i only got to 1.5mb's. so now i have wasted 2 download attempts....

so im not going to try again for a couple of days until it is safe...

or is this some sort of EF ploy???? i hope not...

I think this is a great move on EF's part and should be appluaded as it will bring new blood into the poser community

If I could only get the thing to add to cart :(

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

CP are usually good about resetting downloads. Especially when you couldn't get the download. I wouldn't worrry. But It might be worth waiting for the rush to finish.

I haven't downloaded. I just processed an order to get a spare serial number . I noticed they are giving a 10% voucher with it. I've already got one to use Renderosity (Thanks by the way) but I can use the CP one to buy stuff from RDNA and/or CP's other partners. I hadn't noticed anyone else mention that.

(They also had other special linked deals available as you placed your order but none appealed to me)

bagoas ( ) posted Sun, 03 September 2006 at 2:23 AM

They have recognized the servers are overloaded. I had a message that the download will remain available.

fao nghayward, have you spoken to the vue guys? you might still be able to get the free upgrade to vue6 because you bought vue5 just before they announced it.

I'm certain the download link had SR in the title so I think it does. I hven't downloaded it though.

Cant get much to download from CP at just now. I was trying to download something else. It got stuck a "30%, 31 minutes to go " for what seemed like forever. I've used all my download attempts. When it cools down I'll get the download reset and try again. Pity CP seem more interested in attracting new customers than supporting existing ones

Yep! It's patched all the way to SR4. I've downloaded and installed it twice with two new free licenses which gives me three good licenses total because I registered a second email to the site and got a second license.

These two new license on top of my original from Poser 4 & Poser 6 gives me three to use when it's time to upgrade to Poser 7 or whichever version ends up having network rendering capabilities.

martial ( ) posted Sun, 03 September 2006 at 9:24 AM
