Notepad++ Heads up! For a long time I have used the free "EditPad Lite" as my text editor of choice. I'm very hapy with it. It has excellent Search and Replace features including block (multi-line) search and replace, and a hoist of other nice features. One thing it does not have though is level folding. Level folding (rolling up the text between braces) is a very nice feature to have when working on large Poser library files. Last night I found a free text editor that has good level folding and bookmarking "Notepad++", so I thought I would give a heads up. Although "Notepad++" has some great features, it has proved rather unstable (sometimes freezes) on my old 1GHz system under Win98 SE. I'll still be using EditPad Lite for much of my work, but there are times when I find level folding is almost essential, so I'm very happy to have this new tool for those ocasions, even if it is a tad unstable. P.S. To use the level folding on poser files, you should select "C" as the language.

as an aside, BBEdit is a good tool for those using OS X. in addition to the usual editing functions, it has the ability to search and replace text strings in all the files of a given directory.

Been using Notepad++ for some time now (never had any problems).
Besides being FREE! :biggrin: it's great because it understands the layout of many different languages, like HTML, C++, SQL, Java and, of special interest for those who "dabble", - Python.

There's also CR2Builder, which has always been quite stable, and does folding. In addition, since it is created specifically for editing Poser files, it has several Poser-centric built-in utility functions.

On the Mac side, there is also TextWrangler. Like BBEdit, it's made by Bare Bones. You'll find it here: http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/index.shtml

Thanks for the note on Cream. SourceForge has so many text editors that finding what you want is a bit tough. Cream sounds just right.

I swear by TextPad, myself. Except for two things: no folding, and no updates for some years. It may be time to move on.

Rubicon, thanx for the tip on Cream.  I'm always looking for

something to replace Kedit, which I've been using since the

pre-Cambrian era.  Kedit is entirely obsolete, and has lost its

support, but it does ONE big thing that I haven't seen in any of

the modern editors: vertical block selection. 

This is vital for building arrays and lists in Python, and I just

can't get by without it.  Looks like Cream has this feature. 

Will give it  a try.
