Subject: Is there an Opacity Filter?

I'd like to apply Opacity based on a Selection I made with the Gradient Tool?

Click on active layer that you want effect applied to. Click on add layer mask. Click on the layer mask box for that layer. Then use gradient tool and drag. Use foreground/background to set gradient range. Use a grayscale, with full black being transparent and white being opaque.

It's not a filter, but masking.

With the selection active, click on the mask icon in the layer pallette, with the layer you want the opacity to appear in selected.

Simply activate Quick Mask Mode (q key), use the Brush or Gradient Tool to make your selection, then exit Quick Mask Mode (q key again).
