I like this feature - it gets people to see other shots they might have missed from browsing.  Keep it up, your work is appreciated :)
Tho i did like the previous way of doing it with the collage providing the links to the artist gallery / full size shot.  but i understand that is more work for you guys :(

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Yes, glad to see this feature is back!!!  It's a great way to catch those images I may have missed.

@danob...you can have the collage link directly back to the artist's image by setting it up as an html page and putting a hotlink for each image in the collage....but I'm not sure how to put the html image into the thread...I'm sure one of the other staff members would know though.  Wait a minute....just have a look at how one of the old ones was done...that should show you how the hotlinking took place.

Just a suggestion....to get a better mix  of artists, maybe implement a guideline that if a photo artist is featured in the LWITG, they can't be selected for the following week.  Again, just to mix it up and not have the SAME people showcased all the time!  Makes for a better representation of the RR community in my book!  Also, if you're sending out emails, like in the past, this could get NEW peeps potentially coming here to the forum to check things out!

Thank you for featuring my picture in this selection 😄 It was quite a nice surprise.

danob ( ) posted Sun, 10 September 2006 at 3:46 AM

Yes thanks for your view Joe thats why we open this thread for members views,   and this selection did try and cover the whole gallery rather than exclude anybody, but yes we do try and make the picks from those who dont have lots of comments.. At the same time we should not ignore great images...

Perhaps we can also have a Picture of the week for what may be considered one of the best. A common feature in some other galleries on the net..

There are a lot of problems anyway in selecting images to represent all the fine work that goes on in the gallery such as nude images as the images cannot be tagged for nudity, and thus the whole genre has to be excluded.. I am not sure how we can overcome that problem..

Only a few members have taken time to comment on the thread, so it is questionable if this feature is worth all the work it takes to present it..

Is there anyway of knowing how many members have clicked through the links ?

That would be a good guide as to how popular the feature is.

I do appreciate all the time you guys are putting into this to give the members what they want, and to make Renderosity an enjoyable interesting site to visit.

Well done Danny, especially as you are one mod down at the moment.

The thread alone has 296 views at the moment, and that should count as a success in itself....right? I know it doesn´t equal 296 members....duh....but still. So maybe not that many has commented on it, but that´s pretty typical of a community like this isn´t it? You have the usual peeps doing most of the posting and the "newbies" who´s feeling a bit shy and settles for just viewing silently. Nothing wrong with that. I didn´t even know LWitG had returned untill i all of a sudden got a couple of ebots for comments on my car-shot which is in that collage. That´s how i found out it was back.  😄 I can understand your viewpoint though.....it must be kinda hard motivating oneself when not knowing if it´s appriciated enough to make the effort worth it. So Richard´s idea is great i think. There must be a way to at least see how many people viewed the collage-page.....i know i can monitor all the activity on individual pages on my own website. 😄 Yup...i´m rambling now...but it´s only to pass time till i can go home from work...bla bla...:bored:

What is LWitG? Just kidding!

Count me in, now we had 297 visitors. It sounds like a great idea to revive it again and we do appreciate all the time and effort put into this. :thumbupboth:

Indeed this is a valuable and fun feature..always look forward to it.  Yikes, my only images to stand a chance for this were during the "quiet time"...ah,,,to shoot more and try for a photo good enough with enough appeal.    I have been selected before and believe me, it is an honor and does wonders for the photographer.

As a viewer, it does wonders for me, too.  I see what I have missed and appreciate the different styles and pov of other artists here...that is what really makes it such a worthy feature.

TwoPynts ( ) posted Mon, 11 September 2006 at 7:37 AM

I can now vouch for how much work goes into this one feature so it is really great what Danny has done here. Since there is no set started for choices, basically a coord or moderator has to skim the entire weekly output of the Photography Gallery to cull some images for the LWitG feature. That can be very time consuming...and then there is the implementing of it. Danny did a great job getting his feet wet with this and if there is enough sustained interest I'm sure he'll perfect the presentation method.
