Subject: normals

I once again have a model that I am tring to export from vue into a game engine. when I load the model in the game it has "inverted normals" ( I think thats what they are called). My question is what what are they and how can I fix them.

Normals are mathematical items (vectors) that give additional information to each face of a model. The direction is normally used to indicate what is the front side of such a face.

In the old days - and probably in games still - all faces where the normals point away from the camera are not needed to be calculated - which makes the display on screen a lot faster.

If the normals point in the wrong direction you need to flip them. Best method is to use a modeller that is able to do that and maybe is able to do modifications on the object as well. There are free ones out there, Blender is one, 3DWings is another.

Normals are vectors that point with a 90° upwards angle from the center of a polygon. if they are inverted, they point 90° downwards ( inside the mesh). You need to invert them in a 3D app, as wabe suggested. If you use Vue infinite, you can do it in the edit menu of your object.

You shouldn't have to worry about inverted normals and typically imported objects already have 'double-sided' turned on in the Polygon Mesh Options window.
