Subject: Smoke Trails and Particles

Hello everyone,

First off, I was wondering if there is an effective way to create smoke trails (ex- from a missile) within P6 and the P4 renderer?  I've been using stock footage from Detonation Films for this sort of thing, but I haven't been able to find any decent footage of a smoke trail.  To picture what I need, just pop in Spielberg's War of the Worlds (whether you like it or not!), and jump to the end when the marines fire the rockets at the Tripod.

And my second question is if there is a product out there to help "beef" up an explosion in P6 (with exploding debris).  I have an animation where I need a little hovercraft to take an unfortunate crash landing, resulting in, well... pieces (check out the end of the Pod Race in SW: Ep1 to see what I mean).  I'm not too efficient with 3D Studio Max, but I'm going to try to import a Poser model into Max and seeing what I can do.

Thanks for the help!  In case you're wondering what I'm working on, it's my new CG epic film that might turn out to be 3 hours long... and I'M the only one who's animating!  I was able to create a 2 hour CG film with P4, but technically it's not too impressive (although the fans disagree).  This took me a year, and I have a feeling my new film might take twice that at least.

Jepes has all kinds of special effects stuff in his store here. Lots of things for "movie" effects.  I can't recall off hand if his store is listed as "Jepes" or "JPeter".  Check for both.  I have some of his special effect props and I really like them.

I believe it is under JPeter.  I just grabbed an addition to the small collection I had going tonight, you'd think I'd remember.  He has some still effects as well as animated movie props that would work explosions, etc.

An example of a couple of the fire effects from a WIP (that I have a long way to go on yet) can be seen attached.

Jpeter has a lot of cool effects over at DAZ also under the name Jepes!

Cool I'll check that out.  I actually have one of his still effect products (Steamz or something like that) but I wasn't aware he made animated ones as well.

Thanks for the help!

I have steamz also, he's actually more known for animated effects than stills!
