Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 28 6:42 am)
I'm a discriminating buyer and only buy things that I know I'll use.

say." - Ghandi
So do I. Not too much, luckily.

ive spent an awful lot of my tin on poser stuff, most of it during the first year of my "poser-life". i reckon less than 20% of it is still in my runtime. the rest of it is being regarded as crappy or superficial work and a waste of money. every now and then i browse my p-stuff folder in search of inspiration or textures. i think its hard for the newbie to "read" promo pics properly (sigh).
I used to buy so much stuff (I cringe when I look at the money I've spent at Daz.) But nowadays I stick to only buying things "on demand", so I know I'll use them at least once, and if possible I look for a freebie alternative, or try to make it myself (depending on what it is. I can model simple props, I can make textures and backgrounds, I can paint hair (sort of...) but I'm never going to give As Shanim any worries LOL)

I buy on impulse some of the time - usually by the quality of the product and my future possibilities of using it. ;)
But lately, with doing interPoser Pro, it has actually become sort of a budgetary alotment - $200 was put aside for the sole purpose of purchasing content for beta-tester troublesome content testing (anything that wasn't already in my Runtime). I definitely blew the budget though - maybe spending twice that - but sales and PC membership helped a lot!
I'd say that about 1/4 of my purchases have never been installed. How sad is that? ;)

I rarely buy on impulse (I've learned that I can't afford it), but I often downlod freebies "on impulse"....and end up clogging up my runtime...
Oh, well, I'm a pack-rat, and I'm too old to change.
Some of that stuff might come in useful, possibly, someday...
And you can never have too much hair (Just ask William Hague! Sorry about that, it's a political UK in-joke)

Being new I have only purchased a very few things I know I would use. Freebies on the otherhand? Hrmm. 8 gigs worth in about 3 weeks time. :blushing: If I can find it free I do so. Not because I am cheap, just broke. Plus it is senseless as a new user to Poser to spend tons of money on something without having a clue as to its worth or usefullness. Also with the massive amounts of freebies out on the internet legally it doesnt make sense to me to pay for items unless I can find them nowhere else. Alot of what I have seen in the markets are clothes and such for models I dont have and dont intend to buy. So I stick to the freebies and buy only when I really want an item and know I will use it.

Lemme know what ya think please!
I know I will be purchasing V4 when she arrives. At first I was buying all kinds of stuff. Now, it is more less looking at the quality and if I'll use it with other characters. However, with purchasing Wardrobe Wizard I will find myself spending less on many things. I have gigs of poser stuff in my Pposer cd library.
"I've bought stuff I've never even used once."
Same here. I frequently buy stuff for projects that never see the light of day. The idea looks good as a sketch on paper or in my 'minds eye', but part of it doesn't work in Poser. So the purchase doesn't get used, it gets backed up for a 'rainy day'.
Some stuff gets used once for something then never used again.
Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
My situation is that I KNOW I will use the things I bought, but I just don't have the time to use them ! Argh !!! I wonder if they will ever become obsolete. What if one day, all my content for Poser suddenly becomes unuseable ? Horrors ! I've got GBs of content and spent all my pocket money and then some, on 3D content.

never bought anything (no credit cards, long story..;), but I have more freebie stuff (about 22,800 items at latest count..;), and have a directory called 'holding' for stuff I actually plan to use (and that's 1.4 gig at the moment..;) who has time to buy?..;)
I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I get all the freebies my system can hold and buy as little as I can get by with. I dumped a ton on DAZ, but out of spending a total of $200 USD, I made off with over $1500 USD worth of items, almost all I have used, or will use shortly.
The time constrainst is the biggest killer to me. So MUCH to render and SO MANY tales to tell to the ages, I have no time left! T__T
I wish I was rich enough to life free of the fear of starvation, and just make art and tell stories. Working 12 hours a day prevents that!

Hee I do not think it was an annoying question. I have bought stuff from vendors and Daz and found out later it was either a big mistake as it looked better as advertised and later a whole waste of time. When I view the items later I roll my eyes and wish it would go away but some items cannot be uninstalled and I do ont know how to do so. Wasted space, wasted money and definately a waste of time. So in answer yes I have and wish I had pondered before purchase or asked others if the item was worth buying at all.

Same here. I've already got enough stuff to keep me busy for decades......too bad that a lot of it will likely be obsolete before I ever use it for anything.
I'm trying to make efforts to bring that under control. I've helped myself in that area by contriving to be too busy to do anything with what I buy.
One word, Dina. "...have a directory called 'holding'" and one called 'New', one called 'Newer,' 'Newest', 'Try,' etc. Posette and Vicki have more clothes than a Chinese sweatshop but they still insist on being naked most of the time.

I have some items I've paid for, but never used. It's not that I have no use for them, just don't have enough time to do so :(

I was reckless buying stuff when I first started using Poser, a few I've never even used. I've managed to control myself now and only buy stuff if I really need/want it! :)

Have you ever bought a character, article of clothing or props that you've only used once and never again? I've been backing up my poser CD library and have ran across things I didn't even know I had..LOL! Like hair models for one.
