Okay, now that I am a convert....

I installed all my libraries and "stuff" to Poser, will I be okay in removing Daz Studio from my system?

Go for it.

this is a bit off-topic, ands not related to anything in this current thread outside of the actual topic, but-
if you want or need to free up space on the hard drive, sure, uninstall it. I have both installed, but I have a 100 gig hd so space isn't an issue.

but why is there so much antagonism towards that program from so many poser users? sure, it doesn't incorporate all of the features Poser 5/6 does, like dynamic cloth and hair, and the scripting language prevents usage of python scripts. but it does have it's features also- a leaner interface, better interaction with Bryce (with the release of Bryce 5 free, this is useful to many people), and integration with a fine renderer, 3delight, which is slowly but surely being unlocked with many scripts and shaders.

I just don't get it; I learned my 2D skills with Gimp, and didn't smirkingly desire to uninstall it after finally getting the 'real' Photoshop. And I'm not accusing anyone in this thread of smirking, but there ARE plenty of scornful comments aimed at D/S on many forums.

I've used Studio since the early beta stages, and like lots of other people I refer to what I play with as 'poser stuff', because Poser is the 'standard' for simple 3d  posing and rendering of premade figures. just like many others' 'photoshop stuff' is actually created by Gimp or Paint Shop Pro, because the programs are clearly related in function,content, and usage.

I've seen lots of smirky, elitist comments aimed at Poser users over the years from users of 'true 3d programs' such as maya and the like. It surprises me to find that a similar reaction would appear amongst  the poser crowd, directed at studio; I frankly exprected the poser community to be a bit more welcoming of a kindred program. I think it's a good thing another program supports the poser format and file structure. It actually helps validate the format as legitimate, the way both Gimp and PSP using PSD files does for PS.

Just a question I've had for awhile.

Dunno, I have both installed on my computer.  But he asked if it would cause any problems
to remove DAZ Studio, and it wouldn't cause any problems with Poser if DAZ Studio were
removed.  Now I will admit I hardly ever use DAZ Studio, because I am more comfortable
with the Poser interface, but like you  I have a large hard drive and it's not hurting anything
to keep it.  So basically if one wants to keep it and space isn't a problem, keep it.
If you would rather have the space for something else and you are comfortable with
Poser and want to get rid of DAZ Studio, right click Delete it.

I have nothing against Daz Studio, as that is how I found Renderosity and a host of other graphic sites. If I didn't have Poser 5, I'd still use Daz.

However, since I have a laptop with a small hard drive (60GB), space is limited (albeit, I have over 65% of the drive free).

I was just wondering if I removed it, would I break something somewhere in Poser in the process

it shouldn't...i started with daz studio but decided that poser 6 is for me. deleted DS without a problem ;)

Most of the DS comments I see here are pretty objective but there are those that fit your description.

hmmm, i would have thought that since we get a lot of flack from the "elites" (as they wish us to think of them) that we'd be much more tolerant. besides, to me there is no difference whatsoever between DS and poser. i could be wrong of course but i never really get to compare the two for too long. i only played with DS for two days before my poser came in the mail.

Try everything out before deleting to make sure everything works okay.  Always nice to have a copy to go back to if thing go wrong.

After I cleaned up my libraries and other files, I decided to keep Daz afterall.

I felt that it still had enough benefits to warrant keeping, besides...1GB is NOT that much space, when you consider a Poser character can take up to 22,000 KB (even compressed).
