One question. Can you make a video  with a Poser animation  (like Mike of Don walking or running) in a Vue animation for example.

I dont really know how to use Poser, but  there is a Poser character that comes with vue that has a walk...I'll give it a go..something hopefully, should be up by the weekend...

I use my lightwave characters, and composite my environment...

No, not really...As I go along and work stuff out, or learn something from other peoples written tutes..I make a video...most of the time, I see a bunch of posts from people in the forums, and figure a video could be usefull..Its easier to make a tute, then to try and explain it with text.

Besides all that, its an awsome way to learn..when someone posts asking for help (not to me specifically) on something they want to learn..I think "How would I do that"...so you learn how, and BANG theres a new skill...It has to be something interesting I could use...Once you have created the scene/effect half the job is done, you then make stuff up and record it.

I've had some request for some basics tutes..I'll try to make something, but theres too much to cover..specific things are a bit easier.

For example a tutorial about the function editor? It's still a book with seven seals for me personally, and the few tutorials I found in the web didn't demystiphy it enough to me to be productive with it... ;)

Teaching may be the best way to learn - 'cause you have to understand a method pretty well to do a good tutorial on it.

Yes, Camtasia Studio....I've worked out what I think are the best settings to get the best quality with a small quicktime .mov file...Check image.

The function editor is crazy...I dont really understand it, as theres nothing out there explaining what any of things do..What is "Parabolic [ax2+bx+c]"..Im no rocket scientist...When it comes to the function editor I leave it for the experts (let them work it out), then TRY to convert to laymans terms. The guy who did the AsileFX videos struggled and said "experiment, see what you come up with" and that video cost $45.

If you havn't, check the AsileFX video site...The begginer stuff is really good..I recommend that if you are really new to to Vue, but the advanced stuff really isn't that advanced or detailed..No prep was done for his videos, all on the fly..they could have been made in a 1/4 of the time...But good on him for making them!

Thanks Ivan :o) Yeah, someone really needs to do a good tutorial on the function editor. I'm maybe 1/2 way to really understanding it, so don't know when i can do that.

There is a guy making cool examples of many functions on his site, and the Vue 5 Infinite manual goes into it quite a bit. 'The Vue 5 Function Node Project'. Nice BIG material samples!

That 'Procedural Terrains A to Z' tutorial at Cornucopia 3D (by the famous and highly skilled Vue artist Robert Czarny) does show some practical uses of the Function Editor in real scenes.

I'm not super expert on the Function Editor, but with so little apparently out there, i figure to at least cover the basics. And this will help me learn more about this fantastic tool.

Excelent Tute Jim!!!!...Thats perfect!!!...I like your electronics analogy..I too am an electronics tech (No rocket science, just cameras), it gives me another way to look at the function editor...

 I too press the preview for confort, your right it makes you feel like you have done something..hehehe.

I just wanted to add something if I could... To get another perspective on the function editor, I recommend adding different preset materials to an object, and opening the function editor for that material to just have a look at how they were made...Heaps of things going on, it might give you ideas.

Great video.  I have a couple of suggestions.

1) At the end of the video, you can list your web site and your e-book.  Yes - it does 'smack' of commercialism, but I don't mind being reminded every time I review the information (the old axiom applies  - nothing is (realy) for free).  This applies to you too, Ivan.

2)  I had a hard time hearing your voice.  I had the speakers on full, and also the Windows volume turned way up.  Maybe it's my speakers... but they are OK usualy.

3)  I work with VUE offline.  Is there a way to save your Flash Video?  Right-clicking doesn't work for me as it only gives me an HTML link.

Ivan, we think alike - am planning to disect a few juicy default materials after folks understand a bit more. Also want to encourage everyone to read the Function Editor stuff in the manual (maybe i'll put that in the opening still shot).

Thanks, as for the audio, i'm maxed out, but will try to find another 3-6 dB somewhere. Since no one else has complained about the audio level from my several video clips, i thought it was okay, despite the Camtasia audio track looking pretty anemic. On the other hand, don't want to blast people and make them reach for the volume control.

What do the rest of you think - need more audio level?

Advertise my eBook in the video? Why didn't i think of that! Maybe another still at the end? However hyperlinks are a bit hard to do and slow the video creation/publishing process - worth it i guess. And i could add a 'Back' button to the video HTML page a the same time - though those will force vertical scrollbars for many.

Will try to get another Function Editor video clip out every few days, until i've reached my limit of understanding.

Yeah, just a bit loader Jim, otherwise perfect!

I dont have anything to advertise..  :(   . My philosophy is "sharing is caring".hehe. Look, I have learnt so much from the help given to me, from many people in the forums (Including Jim)..So I really dont mind!..this is my way of giving back I suppose.

If you want to save the flash files, heres a trick...

Go to your Temp internet folder (C:Documents and SettingsIvanLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files)..you might have to set to "view all hidden files and folders"..., delete all..then click on the video tute, wait for it to load fully. Go back to the temp folder and you will see it there, it should be one of the bigger files, right click, save!

 I didnt design this software, I'm merely showing people how to use it..FOR FREE, I'm sure theres tutes ot there that may explain how to do things, But I dont know where they are...

  I dont really understand your question, and take offence to the comments...These are free, and anyone can use them! I made them, that is my voice...Its not like Im taking credit for other peoples work, our getting anything for it!

 I wouldnt think there would be too many ways or steps to show how to do certain stuff.....But If you could, post an example of these socalled copied tutorials.

I suppose you cant please everybody, one negative comment from over 10,000 views of my tutes...I'm happy to STOP making them!.....Comments like yours are unappreciated, This is a forum where people help each other!

Just to make it clear...All these tutes were created from the knowledge gained from taking the time to read  the manual and participate in  the forums, where people explain how to do stuff..Most of the tutes were explained in variouse way by much smarter people than I, For all I know, I may have gained knowledge from you!

All I have done is made them into videos, and made them accessable to the public for FREE!

Might it be possible that some steps are similar presented in more then one turorial? I assume so, and with this point of view, comments like yours are not very useful, theyr'e actually poison for a community like this...

I appreciate you saying that..I was SOOO angry when I read those comments...Its hard to explain, but how do you take credit for a technique or a sequence of steps involved in working a program..Doesn't make sense!..I have never taken credit for working out how to use this program...Its an awsome program and we all LOVE it, and want to get better at using it..I have learnt SO much from OTHERS,  all I'm doing is passing on the info.

If e-on made these tutes, myself and others wouldn't have to, as were all aware there isn't a great deal of stuff out there that we can learn from, ie books, apart from the forums. Many people helped create these tutes and I thank them ALL.

The more I learn, the more I will share!

Hey Ivan, don’t get upset over the comment. It isn’t worth it. Your tutorials are very much appreciated. I also create video tutorials professionally and write books and I know the time and preparation that goes into creating them. There will always be people who don’t “get it”. We had one person comment that, “books on how to use software are only a re-hash of the user’s manual and shouldn’t be allowed”. How insane is that? Obviously you have to cover the same topics, but it’s the knowledge and experience that you personally bring to the book or tutorial that makes it worth it. You keep up the good work.
