Subject: ICU - Vickie's life hangs in the balance.

Deeply comatose since the so called accident, it is impossible to say how much she will remember when she wakes up...if she even wakes up at all... I am the lucky beta tester for a new intensive care medical set! This set has everything you need for the modern hospital environment and critical care. Well, apart from a ventilator, but maybe someone can make that as an addon. Thre are pills, vials, syringes, assorted hospital clutter and cables. A fully possible ICU bed that looks just like the real thing - take my word for it - I know how real this set is. Your Vickie and other poser people have their best chance of recovery at St Elsewhere's Hospital. I wonder if any of you can guess who made this set. Love esther

oops, I rendered in cararra (I do nearly all my rendering there), but for some reason that made the stainless steel of the sink look funny so I should have rendered in poser. Love esther

When will it be available ?

Virtua36: Hopefully soon, but... estherau who is beta testing it all for me... is a hard task misstress.

Its not that what estherau is testing is faulty... just she keeps suggesting things to add to make it all look more realistic... so the set just keeps growing and growing.

pokeydots: he... he... he... prolly cos I leapt before I looked...!

Neat addons (if they aren't there already) to have:

BP cuff to hook up to the monitors.
Nasal prongs (and O2 supply, of course).

I like the sharps container on the counter.  Nice touch.

Needs a phone.  Pretty much standard in emerg/ICUs.

Keith ( ) posted Wed, 04 October 2006 at 8:45 PM

Oops, nevermind, saw the O2 outlet on the wall in a closeup.  And the IV pump...great.

Looks just like an emergency room when we crash in with a patient.

The black part is where the corridoor ends in poser nothingnes, but it's easy to put in a second ICU, or even take out a wall and make the whole ward bigger. Love esther PS i'm sure if not ziggie then someone will take up the challenge of 02 masks and nasal prongs and other toobies.

estherau: good point about the 'nothingness' where the set ends when rendered at certain angles.

I will take care of that by adding a curved plane... textured to make it look as though the corridor continues.

I have the nasal 02 thingies covered and just need some decent reference pics of masks.

Tubing is the greatest problem of all. There are lots and lots of tubes and cables in the set but they are all static.

The overheads for Easiepose tubes is just tooo big... approx 1.5 MB per tube and thats a short one... and there are so many figures and so many possible poses it would be impossible to set up a rigid tube prop to cover them all.

I shall prolly go for a nasal tube prop that can be scaled to fit most figures with the tube draped across the chest to side of bed... but it wont actually connect to the 02 outlets.

Attached pic is of M3 with the nasal toob prop in place.

Also has some sticky on the chest ECG pad type things.

The flow meters on the ducting actually work as well.... turn a dial and the corresponding knob will rotate and the lil ball and or dial adjust to match

Since realism is the thing that's going here, remember there are two sets of standard O2 masks, the type with just the mask and the type with the the bag on it (obvious morph possibility there).

That said, even without the prongs it looks spectacular.

(I won't mention it's missing a foley...)

jefsview ( ) posted Thu, 05 October 2006 at 11:19 AM

All right, another wing to the hospital! A definate MUST HAVE.

now if only someone would make some hospital gowns for the Mil folk, we'd be all set :)

Do you have an ETA on this, Ziggie?

ziggie ( ) posted Thu, 05 October 2006 at 11:28 AM

Thanks for comments folks... all points noted... most of what has been suggested is in hand... or vein... or mouth...

As to ETA.... I don't want to commit myself, but... hopefully... in a couple of weeks. I need to put this set behind me and get onto other things... examination room... operating theatre, etc., etc...

As for hospital gowns... am looking into that... have just got OBJTOCR2 prog from PhilC Designs, so... hopefully I will be able to come up with something... unless someone makes some before me.

Never mind the lift doors... whats her phone number...?

pokeydots: you asked about blankets..? This is the sort of thing you can get with the P6 high res square in the Cloth Room.

For P4/PPP users... I may throw in a few sheet/blanket props to cater for the more common (natural) patient poses. Similar to the one in the pic... xcept I will run it thru my modeller and add another layer on top so that it looks like a blanket draped over the sheet.

Hey Ziggie, this looks really excellent! Saw that bed on the Modo forum a while back and wondered how many Ziggies there could be in the world making hospital beds :)

I just had an idea for your tubes, I don't know if this will work but it might lead to a solution: Make a narrow, flat 2D 'ribbon' prop that looks like a snake from above (with a few bends to the left and right), but is flat from the side. Position it in plan view (one end up nose, other end over bedpan or whatever), then use cloth room to drape it downward across the bed, patient etc. Give it a displacement map which is basically just white along the middle, black along both edges, so it thickens up to a sort of 'tunnel' shape during render. Might be worth a try?

Seeing your work on this great scene might just...possibly... maybe... be the incentive I need to finish off a few of my many related props and get them into the store. I have those plaster casts (I think you beta tested them a million years ago?) and some neck braces (foam, plastic etc), a sling and so on.

Hi obm... thanxz,,,

Yup.. that was me at Modo forum... venting my frustration at how such a GOOD modelling program is ruined by the ommision of such a simple tool..

Will try out your suggestion for tubes later... personally... I don't have a problem with the tubes, because I can make them to fit exactly in my modelling programs...

The problem is... coming up with a posable tube that can be included in the product for end users.

The set has lots of static prop tubes... but it is impossible to make static tubes, wires, etc., due to the variety of figures that could be used as patients and the limitless positions they could be posed in.

I had a thought last night which I have yet to try out... a long.. fairly high def tube with lots of segments... with magnets attached at suitable distances along it.. that way (if it works) the end user could adjust the tube to suit themselves.

Sounds like a suitable problem for Dr Geep... LOL...

Yes... I did test out your Multi-cast figure and thought it was looking good... you should continue with it... I am always being asked for various casts and made a few as freebies, but they are rigid and encoded as they are made from existing figure meshes.

You should go ahead with the neck braces and sling as well... I have been asked about those a lot in the past as well.. you could package items like that together as an EMT kit or something along those lines...

just a mention- personally, i use the free easypose tube 2.0 by ajax for all my tubular needs.  i find it very easy to use.  if you just make an add-on freebie texture or maybe full pose if not character (ask ajax) to group multiple ones how you'd like, you'll get the tube functionality and an opportunity to advertise through freestuff (as i notice many do).  right now ajax's stuff is down (rendo is saying his bandwidth is done  for the month), but i'm sure that will change.  actually, i wonder why there's a run on his stuff now as his latest freebie in freestuff is more than a year old.  could be anything, i guess.
