Subject: How visible is this object

Greetings all!

I have a question.  My old monitor which was highly calibrated died on me so I am using a temporary old junker.  The problem is I have no idea how bright or dark it is compared what I am used to.  So I was wondering if you all could look at this image and tell me if you can make out the details.  I know everybody will see it a bit different but I just want a general polling to see how much can be seen.

When I look at this image on my screen I can only make out part of the guitar.  It is quite dark and not washed out at all.  The round bottom of the guitar is completely visible but quite dark.  I can see the neck of the guitar but I can NOT see the top 'head' section of it at all (head section is the part where the strings tie into those little screw thingies...no I don't have a clue of the official terminology :).

So if you can just let me know what you can or can't see it will be appreciated!  Thanks!

Looks like an electric guitar to me, but the image is too small to see more than the outline. Try uploading a larger image next time.

There are no more details to see, as it is flat black.  I just want to know how much of the guitar people can see.  For me, all I can see is the outline of the bottom section and most of the neck, but not the top of it(my screen settings are too dark to see the head of it as it blends in with the background).

The reason I am doing this is because I need to know what others may see when I upload my pictures.  If everybody sees the entire outline, including the head section, that means my monitor is darker than most.  If I design an image that relies on a lot of darkness and shadows I have to keep that in mind when adjusting the darkness of it.  Afterall, a creepy scene can become silly if you can see things in the dark that I couldn't when I made the scene. :) Or if my monitor is lighter than most a dark scene may be way too dark and many won't see a thing.

Thanks.

I see as you do

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

I can see the bottom part of the guitar fine, the neck disapears into the clouds.

Interesting method of calibrating a monitor!

My monitor (calibrated with a Spyder 2 hardware calibrator from Pantone) shows about what you describe. I can see about 3/4 of the neck, but not that top piece.

It took me a while to see anything, but I can make out the outline of the body and part of the neck (half or less). I'm using an 18" CRT in a sunny room.

I'm at work now and using a flat screen and I can see a guitar quite clearly except for the top part of the neck if that's what it's called [lol]. At home I use a CRT monitor and could see nothing!

Maybe I need to calibrate mine at home !!!!!!!!

:)  Yeah, I guess you can call this the poor-mans calibration method. :)

Thank you all for your help.  It is much appreciated.  Looks like I don't need to make any adjustment.  Thanks again!
