Heh....I was hooked on "Footballer's Wives" for a wee bit but that was a flash in the pan....HAHAHA!
Actually, I long to see the "Young Ones" again. Been years since I've seen those lads. Oh well I'm completely off topic here.
Hey Síle will ya stop with the old and decrepit yer making me feel ancient...LOL!!!
Cheers,

Hi Tiny
if you're a traditionalist, this new series won't exactly please you - much of the dialogue has been modernised, or switched. It's much better on subsequent viewings when you've got used to the idea. Also, certain scenes/events have been changed or switched. Looking at it from a film makers POV tho', I think they wanted to get the passion between Jane and Rochester defined, and BOY do they do that (with no nude scenes yet!).
I approached the series with some scepticism, but was won over.

Didn't see it, but I've been watching Casanova on Masterpiece Theater on PBS here in America. It stars Peter O'Toole as old Casanova and none other than Dr Who himself, David Tennant as young Casanova. It's was an excellent series and the acting was superb.
It's all fun and games...
Until the flying monkeys attack!!!
Quote - well, they do have The Avengers, with Mrs. Peel, so I'll cut 'em some slack..;)
Ooooo Diana Rigg!!! Hubba Hubba!!
Hi Fixer
I watched it on BBC4 - wasn't too bad, but some points of the story didn't match with the ones in Jane Eyre. Also, was too enamoured of the JE Rochester (Toby Stephens) to "accept" Rafe Spall's version (which incidentally was v good)
BTW it IS quite raunchy!

sigh have just watched my JE tape for the fifth time this week. I'm like a smoker who needs another ciggie. Except I've never smoked.
Have joined several Jane Eyre addict sites, written fanfics(fantasy fictional accounts of events in the story), can't stop listening to MP3s of the music. HELP. It's stopping me from doing my Poser stuff!

I watched the first 2 episodes but had my littl'un with me for the following 2 weeks and he just wouldn't let me watch without interruptions, so I gave up.
Have to say my "definitive" adaptation of Jane Eyre was the BBC series back in the 80s... 1983 I think, with Timothy Dalton as Rochester.
In what I watched of this one, I was distracted by Ruth Wilson's upper lip, which in some of the low-lighted scenes, looked as if it had grown a big hairy moustache.

I liked the one with Samantha Morton & Ciaran Hinds that was released in 1997... I've always like Timothy Dalton (his Heathcliffe was awesome in Wuthering HEights!!) so I'm definately gonna look for that one on DVD!!! Hopefully it'll be released in North America!!!

It was fantastic!!! I also fell in love with Toby Stephens, as I did years earlier with Colin Firth in P&P and Richard Armitage **in North and South. I guess I'm a sucker for brooding melancholic oldschool men :)
I haven't enjoyed a Jane Eyre more since the one with Timothy Dalton and I think I've seen them all by now ;)

Hi Seeker,
I feel the same way even tho TS is almost young enough to be my son! Well, I'd have to be about 12 to have given birth to him anyway, lol.
I wasn't sure about this adaptation at first as the dialogue, etc, strayed so far from the book. However, I've been involved in film/theatre/scriptwriting and can see how the director took that approach and it's a very fresh angle on a story that's been produced many times.
For US friends, I think JE is being transmitted there in January, and the DVD is released there in May. February for us Brits

I think that we, dedicated Jane Eyre fans, know the dialog by heart by now, so any new idea they pop in feels kind of refreshing, to me anyway :) Ahhh, can't wait for their next costume drama.
BTW, it's kind of off topic but you should definately check out The Amazing Mrs Pritchard. Simply "amazing" ;)

been taking some R + R from Poser and PC thru illness for the past week. Videotaped the whole JE series which ended last Sunday. It stars Toby Stephens as Rochester and newcomer Ruth Wilson as Jane.
They, for a diehard Jane Eyre lover for many years, have become the definitive Jane and Rochester.
Toby Stephens is ........................ well, words can't convey!
