Subject: Bryce 6 is at Daz for $6

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2006 at 4:56 PM · edited Sun, 06 October 2024 at 7:36 AM

For PC members and if you bought 5 there you get a bonus pack for free. Don't know if this is old news or not.

rockets ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2006 at 5:04 PM

It has to be Bryce 5.5 to get the bonus pack free.  I have 5 and that won't cut it, but hey, $6 for Bryce6 is fine by me!

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2006 at 5:11 PM

Wow.  This must be the "surprise" DAZ promised yesterday.

I don't even use Bryce, but I'm tempted to buy it for $6.  I shouldn't.  I have Vue.  I love Vue.  I've never used Bryce, not even when they gave it to me free.  But $6...it's tempting.

Wonder what it does that Bryce 5 doesn't?

rockets ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2006 at 5:18 PM

:blushing: I don't use it either Lyne, but I'm a sucker for a good deal!  You never know when you might want it.

That's my problem too.  Hard to say no to something like that.  We'll see.

Mesh Export of Booleans

Does that mean you can export Bryce models to use in Vue or Poser?

I think so, can't download it until I get home.

Also, this price depends on being in the Platinum club...

since i'm not a platinum member any more it'll cost me $36.95...After november 20th the upgrade from 5.5 will cost me 39.95.

No rush for me.  i'll only  buy it if poser 7 doesn't catch my eye with features.  Might buy a copy for my daughter, we'll see.

I'm not a PC member either and I'm not planning on paying $37 for Bryce 6. The very few new features it offers aren't worth the $37 at all for me.

I just picked it up for the hell of it. It renders tooooooooooooo sloooooooooooooowwww!

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 19 October 2006 at 1:13 PM

LOL!  That's Bryce for you.  "30% faster" is still slower than molasses flowing uphill in January.

Still, I like the painterly look you can get with Bryce.  Can't imagine trying to animate with it, though.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 19 October 2006 at 3:24 PM

Heh Animating with Bryce is for people with a spare computer and no deadline...

Right now I've been spending all day rendering a 800x600 picture...  it's been at it for some 10 hours now and it's only at 15% antialiasing.

GAH! I remember now why I've never rendered much with Bryce.

It DOES make some awesome renders though :o)

See, now you're probably very happy that DAZ made it 30% faster. Imagine you'd have to render it with slow Bryce 5

LOL! Indeed!

It's STILL antialiasing. About one row an hour.. or so it seems. The thing is.. it's REALLY looking so much better after the antialiasing.

But now, so many hours later, it's still only at 23% >_<

Then again, I wouldn't have even considered doing a pic this ..er..large (800x600....) in Bryce 5 - or I would have died of old age...

I've alway liked Bryce's Terrain Editor  better than Vue's, so an improved version for $6 is a no-brainer for me.  Bryce terrains render very nice in Vue.

rreynolds ( ) posted Fri, 20 October 2006 at 1:40 PM

The new export feature now makes hundreds of Bryce freebie objects available for other 3D programs, so that easily makes it worth the $6 or $37 price.

I'm sad to hear that it's still a horrendously slow program.

Here's the finished pic btw. As it's obvious, it's nothing elaborate, yet it took the better part of 24 hours to render and antialias (I went to bed and hadn't turned "Report Rendertimes" on, so I'm not sure exactely when it finished, but...

Nice.  I do like painterly look.  Still....24 hours is a bit much.

Can you do other stuff while it's rendering?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Fri, 20 October 2006 at 2:15 PM

You can pause the rendering, or at least you could in earlier versions (haven't downloaded B6 yet, let alone had time to try it).

Hehe my thoughts exactely. But as I was in the middle of it, and the anitaliasing REALLY made a difference.. I let it continue.

The actual render took some 3-4 hours. The rest was the antialiasing. >_<

And that is WAYYYYYY to much time to spend on that!
