Subject: Is there any plugin to make Poser 5 import vrml 2 files, or convert vrml 2 to ot

Is there any plugin to make Poser 5 import vrml 2 files, or convert vrml 2 to other formats it can import?

I searched but didn't find anything.

I see a lot of programs that can export to the vrml 2 format, but not that import that format. :(

Please help.

3dWin is supposed to be able to import VRML 2, and I know it can export 'bout every format Poser uses.

That thing cost 29 euros.  I was hoping to find something free.

I was searching through python scripts and whatnot, hoping to find something that would work.  Downloaded and tried a few dead ends.

I'm tried this http://www.bitmanagement.de/download/BS_Exporter_Blender/cnt-index.php?lang=en&prod=BS%20Exporter%20Blender but I can't unzip all of it.  No matter how many I download it, the file seems damaged, and they have no email on their site to tell them about it.

The Blender community should have developed something I suppose.  I'll go ask them.  They use python scripts same as Poser 5, so I should be able to use any import script on both, correct?

Hmmm... the only other converter I'm familiar with is called Crossroads, but I did some hunting and it seems to have disappeared. I'm not sure what other converters are available that might work for you.

I'm afraid that Blender Python scripts won't work with Poser, at least not without some modification. Each scripting environment depends on being able to talk to an instance of a Python library that's embedded in the executable, which means that loading a script for one into the other will probably yield a bunch of syntax errors or "missing library" errors.

I know that Blender has built in support for importing VRML 1 files; I'm not sure what it will do with version 2 files. If you can get them imported into Blender, though, you can certainly export the result as an OBJ file, which you then can import into Poser. That may be a roundabout way to do it.

Attached Link: PoseRay

You can try PoseRay to convert it to .obj. I've had mixed results with .wrl files though.

You might try this import script for Blender. Then you can export from Blender as whatever you want.

on this same subject sorta, what vrml viewers would you all recommend?

Haven't messed much with viewers. If you can google up a copy of the old 3dExploration demo, it's probably the best viewer/converter around. The demo has a nag screen but it doesn't expire. Of course, you're on your honor to purchase the full version - now DeepExploration I believe and not real cheap.
