Subject: Straight pattern into a curved pattern?

Hi, I was wondering if, using PhotoShop only, there was a way to take a straight pattern (like a celtic knot) and make it follow a curve? Without distorting at the bends.

filter: polar coordniates. its going to distort some. use illustrator or accually freehand will do the best job.
