Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 11 8:37 pm)
yes, they will work without being converted :) the only problem could be when there are only rsr included but no png for the previews. then you will have to convert them with another prog. Iam using PoserMacConv by fmorgan (available here in MP) but I don't know of it works on your machine (because of the intel inside)... you should ask fmorgan before buying :)

mmmh... I never ever had to convert any stuff for using with Poser 5 or 6 (except for the rsr thingy) and thats why I suggested the PoserMacConv. There are some older (more or less) freebies and even commercial stuff which have "wrong" paths... way to long for mac or beginning with "E:/my computer/my stuff/.... but that could not been fixed with a converter only by hand using a text editor as I know...

mdt - yes, no conversion stuff is necessary but there are only two utilities I use for installing which are quic, very simple and easy to use. They are both from Kaveman who is a member here, but has these things on his own website. One is ditto, which automatically installs all the bits of a runtime in the correct place, and one is xshruggy which creates the pngs in seconds (if they are not included). What version of poser are you using? R u going to use poser 7 on your new puter? It should run amazingly fast. Did you have all your poser stuff backed up? If you have really old files where the stuff isn't in runtime folders then you will have to install by hand rather than using ditto but you certainly don't need that old macconverter from softrabbit anymore. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Hello Esther. Yes, I did have all my poser stuff backed up, but the back up drive was destroyed at the same time as the main hard drive so I am starting from scratch ;( Six years of freestuff and purchases gone. On the bright (ish) side I have already pre-purchased 7 and am looking forward to the screaming render speeds they are boasting about.
I'll check out Kaveman's stuff.
Thanks.
mdt, that is so awful. You poor thing. well with all your bought stuff from renderosity and daz you can just redownload it. And when I first started downloading free stuff I didn't know much about it and I wasn't organized and I put it all in my runtime in one big hodgepodge not even checking if it was for commercial or not, so you're sort of lucky in one way to be starting again as you can be really organized now. I have also prepurchased poser 7. Let me know if I can help at all in any way. Love esther

A question. All of the VISE installers for my DAZ files are of a type that the Intel Mac can't use (the icons even have a nice big circle/slash through them). Does anyone know how to get around this?
Thanks for the sympathy Estherau. I'm still trying to convince my boss that paying $500-$1,600 to try and recover the drive is worth it.
contact daz for new versions of yer previous purchases that contain obsolete vise installers. they should have known better than to use those, they've been told time and again just to provide zip packages like normal vendors, but they refuse to listen to reason. it's an unfortunate paternalistic approach that assumes all users are too stupid to install their own files,

http://www.ilike.co.nz/dittogui/ http://www.ilike.co.nz/xshruggy/ I love these utilities. Not going to be happy though if my daz installers won't run on my intel mac when it arrives next week. Love estherI aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
mdt, You may want to consider "Data Rescue II - The leading recovery software for the Mac". Although I don't know if it'll work with the Intels, I have used a couple of times on my Power PC G5 successfully. It wasn't that expensive and I recovered everything. I had a power outage while running utilities and the drive wasn't even recognized after that. If I remember correctly, DRII was the only program the found the drive too. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Last week I lost my Computer (G4 dual) and back up drive at once, so I lost 6 years worth of runtime and poser archives. Now I have a brand new Mac G5 Pro 2x dual-core Intel box, but without the classic mode, I can't use Poser Maconverter to convert all the great PC content here for my use. Anyone have any ideas on what I might do?
thanks
