Subject: difference between P4, P5 and PP

Hello all, In Poser 6 you sometimes have the option to choose between different materials to put on a figure, example: texture X aplied on figure X. What i don't understand is that sometimes the same texture is available in different 'file formats' like P4, P5 and PP. Now my guess is that this means: Poser4, Poser5 and PowerPose files  What is the purpose of these different files in Poser6 😕 Thanks Wim

Sounds like you are referring to MAT files supplied with say... a clothing item...

Vendors often supply several options of the same MAT for the various versions of Poser. They have to provide differen MAT files for each version as things changed along the way with the way the different versions handle materials.

If... you are using P6... then your best option is to select the P5 Mat files as that will be the closest in compatability to P6 and should work okay.

P4 users would use the P4 MAT and PPP users the PP Mat and so on...

Hope that makes sense...

Addition to my previous... you asked what use they all are in P6... well the P4 and PPP ones aren't of any use... in the same way that the P6 ones that appear for say P4 users will be no use to them.

Vendors often supply the 3 versions of the same MAT with their product... rather than have 3 different products on sale... one for each version.

Poser 4 was the breakthrough software.

Poser propack was P4 with some decient bug fixes. It also changed the bump format from bum files to jpg, which are much smaller and more universal to handel. Poser Artist is now P4pro.

P5 was P4 with some new rooms wratched onto it and tiny bit better render engine.

P6 was the final bug fixs for P5. It also had a tiny bit better lghting engine.

Basicly the differances your asking about have to do with bump maping and transparancies on the textures.

Quote - Poser Artist is now P4pro.

Poser Artist has none of Pro Pack's enhancements.
