can anyone post a link to a good reflection tutorial? im trying to get a sword to look realistically metallic, but it just looks dull grey whatever i do with it. the manual is very brief on mapping. ;( also, is there anywhere that i can download a chrome reflection map? thanks in advance

The best reflection maps are JeffH's. They are hosted at PropsGuild, under the textures section, so you will have to wait for the PropsGuild's download section to come online again.

do the maps in photoshop. give you a hint: use curves. its an awesome tool and can make anything look like crome.

i still have no clue as to what map settings to use, highlight size and color, ambient color and object color. can one of you please post a screenshot of your material settings for chrome in this thread? thanks

You need to simply load a REFLECTION MAP into the REFLECTION MAP area. You also need to RENDER the image to get the full effect. Highlight and ambient are not equivelant to using relfection maps. There are two decent reflection maps that come with Poser 4. -Tim

sigh its a little more complicated than just "load a REFLECTION MAP in the REFLECTION MAP area". there are settings for refl. map strength, multiply through lights, multiply through object color, etc. i was hoping that someone who has more experience with rendering chrome in poser could post some optimum settings for materials... ie: what colors to use and what reflection map settings to use. i know that you have to load a reflection map into the reflection map field -- i can render images fine its just that my chrome looks dull grey.

nevermind i figured it out. noone (including the manual) mentioned that you have to set the reflective color to white otherwise it wouldnt work.

Deal made great use of reflection maps in his boots, available in Freestuff. It would be worth downloading them, and looking at what his maps look like, then checking how he uses them on each material. - JimX

Use silver.jpg reflectiom map. Strength at 100% and "multiply through lights" checked. Oject and ambient color white and highlight and reflective color black. Highlight size at 100%
