Subject: Skin Vue Question plug-in?

Mazak ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2006 at 3:27 PM · edited Sun, 09 February 2025 at 8:00 PM

I have a question about the SkinVue plug-in for DAZ figures. I work most with DAZ figures (Vicky/Michael) do I need the plug-in or is it only a gimmick? Is SkinVue full functionally with DAZ figures?

It is ESPECIALLY for those. Look at what DBurdick and others are posting in the galleries, all Victoria or Michael, generation 3 to be more precise.

Wether you need it or not is something only you can answer yourself.  I would say yes, if you are not too happy with the skin quality of those characters, no if it is not a big issue for your work so far.

Thank you for the information that the $8.95 extra plug-in is required for DAZ figures.

So am I missing something here, without either additional plug ins [DAZ or Poser ones], the actual Skinvue6 will be no use, on it's own I mean!

I'm a bit confused because when I bought Skinvue2 it had DAZ compatability already in the application!!  There was a plug-in for other figures but the DAZ one was included in the price!!

Not having a go at anyone, just trying to clarify, no point me buying SK6 if I can't afford at least one of the plug-ins if they're needed!!

I have now purchased the plug-in too. It is only 11 kb in size

Here the readme:

SkinVue6.0 Plugin Installation (c) Dave Burdick www.SkinVue.net

Description: The SkinVue6 Plugins are a companion add-on product for SkinVue6 which allows the DAZ or Poser family of characters to operate with SkinVue6.  The plugins facilitate the automated swapping of imported character materials directly into SkinVue6 Skin and Eye Shader materials in seconds. It requires the SkinVue6 base product and runs on both the PC and Mac.

Installation

  1. Unzip the Plugin zip file
  2. Place the plugin file SkinVue6[Daz/Poser].py into the following folder:

PC:   Program Filese-on SoftwareVue 6 InfinitePythonScriptsSkinVue6SkinVue6Plugins

Mac:  Applications/Vue 6 Infinite/Python/Scripts/SkinVue6/SkinVue6Plugins

The next time you run SkinVue6, the plugin will automatically be recognized

Let me see if I can add a little clarity here.  SkinVue is comprised of two parts :

  1. The main program which is the GUI for controlling and changing parameters along with the materials and atmospheres

  2. The plugins which are used to automate the swapping/injecting of SkinVue materials into DAZ/Poser character materials.

Currently, there are two plugins available: one for the DAZ family of characters and one for the Poser family of characters.  The plugins are small in size, but are quite powerful because they evaluate each Poser/DAZ character and determine the best way to inject SkinVue materials.  If you're a Python programmer, look at the python source for the plugins and you'll have a good idea of the complexities involved in doing this correctly.  Without the plugins, a user would have to manually load in the right SkinVue material for each Material Zone (32 of them on V3 for example) and then enter the function editor for each material to replace texture and bump maps.  On average, this is a 20 minute effort to do manually and is error prone.  With the plugins, this happens in a few seconds.

With SkinVue6, the product has been repackaged somewhat so that users can pick and choose which plugins they want.  In SkinVue2, the Daz plugin was included and the Poser plugin was optional.  I received a lot of complaints about this, so I decided to completely unbundle the plugins.  So the base price of SkinVue 6 is lower $23.95 versus $34.95 and $8.95 for the plugins.  So a package price of the base SkinVue product with one plugin is $32.90 - roughly the same price as before.  Of course, I'm going to raise prices by 20% after December 31st because I'm going to need the extra money to hire a divorce lawyer to deal with my wife being so angry about me spending all my time on this stuff.

Great plugin, great sense of humour... like it...
