Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 6:57 am)
No, I think this product may pre-date Poser 5 / 6. There are no mat files as they are 3DS models. The only suggestion in the readme is:
In Poser Version 4 or Poser Pro, for the water objects, reduce the appropriate Render Materials Highlights to about 50%, and increase the Transparency to about 85%.
I believe the ad copy was rendered in VUE
I suspect Poser's problem with Water is the same as its' with Chrome, in comparison to Vue/Bryce. In Vue/Bryce there really is a whole 3D world for a reflective object to interact with, but Poser does'nt have this luxury, it only has blank space, really.
Unless, you can figure out how this works(Please let me know if you can!)
Alternatively, you may want to look up bagginsbill over here, and tell him I said hi!

Yes, a skydome will help, possibly improved with the texture fed to the Ambient Color input rather than the default Diffuse Color. Also, Reflection nodes, using the Spherical Reflection method. Both of these overlap with the Poser 6 IBL options. And you probably need raytracing and Refraction. What makes the difference, however achieved, is the water being rendered with light coming from all directions. And another useful trick is to add textures to the ordinary lights. I've an RDNA freebie that does that, with tree-branch patterns. It does make a difference to woodland scenes.

That's right, infinity10 - built for P5, but most of them work fine in P6.
I'll have a free sky dome out in the next couple of weeks too. It's being released with the updated free Dystopia city blocks.

I'll still be looking forward to your Sky Dome, but Bushi was kind enough to fulfill the request I sent him just before I first replied to this post.
I guess I hit it spot on thinking that Poser's actually needs an envirenoment to interact with, in order to produce Raytraced effects I've seen since Bryce 3 :tongue2: The image on the left is what I've gotten going in the past couple hours I've had to play with my new BushiDome.PZ3 and Ajax's Moderate Water Material with UV. The image on the right is the exact same scene after I only deleted the dome!
:woot:

Hi Raven! I have, it's a prop, but could'nt get the thing sized/positioned properly in relation to where the camera or lights were supposed to be. I linked to a thread I started, a couple weeks ago, on Sky Domes, in my first post here, I linked us to it from there. That failure, and this thread were why I asked Bushi, who'd relied to that other thread for his .PZ3. I'm waiting to hear from Bushi again, I've asked him if he plans to put this in the Free Stuff, or what Term of Service he'd like; specifically if I can Redistribute.

It's all been finalised as of last week, so I can't make any changes now (not without destroying our release date plans and upsetting my partners anyway).
It's a figure, loadable from the library. The default scale and position should work fine and you don't need to worry about how lighting works with the sky because the sky doesn't respond to lights or cast shadows anyway. The water plane is a body part that's hidden by default. You just select it and turn the visibility back on to include it in the scene.
The set comes with three sky textures (blue, cloudy and night), but only the one skyline texture and one water material. I may release more textures etc for it at a later date, if I ever get around to it but if I do, the add-ons probably won't be free.

Sorry about the delay in reply- computer issues. Ajax, I have you materials and love them, but I had always assumed some of the water ones (particularly falling water) were for P5 only, cuz I always end up with a cascade of black tar. I must be doing something wrong with the lighting. I'm trying for an indoor waterfall, what type of lighting should I be using.
Sounds like you need to turn on raytracing in your render options.
If you've still got the zip with the materials in it, the readme has a checklist of things that could go wrong when rendering water and glass. Also, it came with some pz3 files that have a whole scene set up exactly how you need it, so you could try opening one of those and seeing how that renders.

Thanks, I had just started the render with Raytrace on. :blushing: It's a wonderful thing.
You know, one day I might actually figure some of this stuff out... then I'll be dangerous!
...another thing that often causes blackness is if your water object still has shadow casting turned on. Poser treats it like a solid object and no light passes through the water, so be sure to turn off shadow casting for any water or glass objects.

Quote - Ajax - Could you also include a camera preset, to match the Figure's default position?
'fraid not. As I said, it's too late to make any changes. Anyway, you don't need it. you can point the camera any direction and it won't matter.

Note that the "Sphere map" is optional, I used it to make it less obvious what was being reflected.
Thanks Sike. I've fixed it now but who knows how long it will last. They just can't seem to keep anything in one place around here.

Yeah, it's at DAZ in either of the free Dystopia City Block packages (or any of the non-free ones as well for that matter).

Thank you! Wow, this Sky Dome is fantastic; it loads with it's Ground in place, the scale is fine, and there are plenty of interesting material zones. It must work wonderful with your free materials!
I have one critical question; how did you know to distort the sky map(my pink highlights), what is that known as? I've read a lot of, and DL'd for, Spherical Mapping Correction; but none of that does this, nor work as well! I'd thought it was a Photoshop Distort Filter, but Polar Coordinates was my best guess.
I ca'nt wait to start shuffling the blocks around.
Sincerely,
Angelouscuitry~

Glad you like it :-)
The skies were created procedurally in Vue and then exported on a UV sphere. I can't think of any other way you could create a texture with the right mapping, but for anybody with Vue it's a very easy way to make new sky textures.
I plan on releasing a pack of alternative sky textures in the next couple of months. It will probably be a commercial package, but cheap.

Wow, thank you very much for your reply, I had no idea Vue could do that, which version are you using?
This may well be a question for the Vue forum; but what were the steps you used to export your current sky, as a map, like this?
Again, congradulations, this contribution to the Poser community is incredible! Poser Reflections and Water just would'nt be half a interesting without your help! Can you plan to add this to the Renderosity Free Stuff, I think it'd be the one and only Poser Sky Dome there, and that many people would be very plesantly surpried to even know it even exists!
I used Vue 5 Infinite. I'm not sure which other versions can do the job.
Once you have your sky ready, you go to the File menu and click on "Export Sky", then for "Supporting Geometry" you choose "UV Sphere".
The skyline part of AxSky_Blue.jpg was composited on from a panoramic render (also done in Vue - use "panoramic view" in the render options). Vue renders an alpha map at the same time. I used that to make the transparency map for the skyline.
What looks like the water area on AxSky_Blue.jpg is actually just dead space. It's created automatically by the sky export process, but not used on the skydome.

I've had this set for a while, but I can't create or find a material setting that makes it actually look like falling water. Does anyone know of a shader that emulates falling water?
