Subject: New Web Site

DIANE603 ( ) posted Thu, 09 November 2006 at 8:38 AM · edited Tue, 12 November 2024 at 5:12 AM

Greetings All,

Check out my new flash web site - www.gypsywagon.us

My labor of love is finally completed. Because of everyone's different computer  capabilities you may want to clear your cache files and refresh your browser if you have trouble viewing the galleries.

I also had one "Major" problem. I was ready to publish my site last week but my host had problems on their end and they deleted all my title pages, galleries & images. They still had my main site and all my image uploads but nothing else. I was furious!! I finally got a live person and they told me  that they back up all the sites AND all I had to do is set up my gallery images again. This meant that I had to start from scratch and also add all my image titles!! Imagine. Talk about labor intensive!!

So that's why you haven't seen me around. I have spent the last three weeks getting the site ready  to publish.  Also, my health problems are back in my left lung - another blood clot.  So my computer time has been limited.

Also, I haven't uploaded my video clips as yet so if anyone would like to see them send me your e-mail by IM.  The video's are under 10MB.

Have a Blessed Day!!

Diane

It sure looks like a lot of work but is a very profession site showcasing your work. It is something to be proud of. Thanks for sharing and I hope your health problems pass quickly.

Amazing site, very well done :thumbupboth: The photo's are very beautiful. I think that your website and images are so eye opening & elevating that you don't need the audiofx (alot of people listen to music when they're browsing which sometimes makes soundfx annoying). Just my 2. Keep up the great work. I wish you well.

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

The looks of it are good. But personally, I don't really like flash sites.

Here are my comments (which I hope you pick up as constructive)

First of all. Music in the background, now that interferes with the music I'm playing in WinAmp. Yes, I know you can stop it manually. I just think music shouldn't be playing on a website. Not everyone might like the music and that could be a reason to browse away.

Second: an intro. Ok, you got a skip button. But if I revisit your site I have to skip it again. Just register I've visited your site and skip the intro when I revisit.

Third. Too much going on. With that I mean I have to wait for some animation to finish before I get to where I want to go. It's nice the 1st couple of items, but it gets anoying having to wait. This is probably my main grievance with any flash site. For example from the home to the 1st item in the menu, it takes 3 seconds of animation.

Fourth: Please lose the beeps. It's really anoying to hear BEEP every time I go over any item on your site. If you insist on using a sound for that, use a more low key sound for that.

Fifth: the navigation. I click on Ikebana and get a gallery link on the left and a large image on the right. It says next to the small image "<click on gallery & #3". I have no idea what that means. Actually I think it means to say "". But the word "gallery" isn't even clickable, you need to click the image. Next I'm looking over at the menu and choose say: Terragen. A terragen image opens, but the link to the gallery (small image on the left) stays the same). So I'm starting to think there's only 1 terragen image there. Later I figured out I need to goto the gallery and click one of the numbered blocks on the bottom. My point here is that that isn't intuitive. If I click on the terragen link on the right I want to go to the terragen gallery. Not having to click another gallery first to choose another button to finally get there. Also what is the purpose of the small image under the bigger image. If I click that nothing happens except the bigger image flickers.

Sixth: The large empty patch on the topleft of the page. My gut tells me there should be a logo or something there. Now it's just an empty space. Is that intentional?

Lastly: On your contact page you have a blessing in 3 languages. Now my french is bad so I don't know if that is correct, but my german is good enough to know that that particular scentence isn't right. Maybe you could ask one of our german forummembers what the correct translations should be.

In closing: I really like the images themselves. But the flow of the website could use some work.

Hi 3DGuy,

Thank you for visiting my site.  You are the first negative response I have received in the forums, by IM, by e-mail along with visits to my site.

If you are having problems viewing the site you need to clean your cache files on your tool menu and then refresh your browser.

The black box is a media player for future video clips.

It's pretty self-explanatory how to get to the gallerys.  The info is on the title pages.  Click on gallery & then # etc.  The large image is the first image in the specific gallery.  If you put your mouse over the number it also tells you which gallery you are in.

My grandaughters are 10 & 13 and they didn't have any trouble moving around the site.

Thank you for your constructive criticism but the music stays.  The purpose of my site is to have an on-line portfolio.  I have several exhibitions coming up the first on is in N Carolina the first weekend in December.  They love my gallery.

Check out the response in the Terragen forum.  They have already linked my web site to theirs.  Check out their website also.

I like this site loads, the art is fantastic and please give the artist of the music playing it's a sound above the rest.

Thank you all for your kind remarks.  The music is by Loreena McKennitt.  The title is The Mummers'  Dance.

I did the best I could considering I have no experience what so ever in Web Design.

Regards,

Diane
