I don't think I'll be in the country. And if I was - how much would peak season be costing?

Not sure Vera. Maybe we must first decide where we wanna go? I suggested Pilanesberg cause the Game Reserve is simply awesome and we can go on a night drive too and there's a lot of waterholes where you can sit for hours since daybreak and again at sunset.
Where's the rest of the avid SA photographers now?!? Come on boys and girls, where do you wanna go next year? Suggestions please?

I actually thought of the kalahari or central karoo...
Or the garden route - Mossel Baai

Hubby actually thought the Karoo was a good idea as well. Let's see what the other maties think. If we do it in the Karoo or Mossel Baai or Cape Town, it HAS to be in April. I don't take leave during the rest of the year. Oom Piet, Herman, Andrew, Wayne, Tienie, and all the other SA maatjies, come have your say!!

The problem with school holiday is price price price and the roads are busy and tourists messing up your shots... traffic - but like I say I might not even be here...

I am keen on the idea for Pilansberg, an alternative like the Karoo or the dry old Garden Route () is fine. I love the Kalahari but would be hesitant to tackle it in a group where some of the people may not understand the dramatic change to be expected and may be disappointed.
I also share the concern that a school holiday/long weekend presents a possible over crowded situation. On the other hand it does offer great opportunity for "people photography".
I hope the other South Africans wake up in time to read this.
Ok, this was my 2c-contribution.
Well my vote for the next RR SA getaway is for Knysna/Knysna Forests. Take a look at the accompanying collage (excuse this, it was done in a great hurry) and links. There is heaps to do both in Knysna and in the forests and it is truly a majestic part of the country.
Ill post more information later on, but for now check out the last link in the accomodation links below for an amazing place to stay!

Vera, you suggested that we keep the arrangement out of season. What you didn't keep in mind is that not everyone of us has the "privilege" to not have kids in school. The suggestion was also made that we arrange the 2007 get together for a 4 day period and not just for a 2 day weekend. So, if the dates are arranged for out of season, you can count me out. I'm not one of those Moms that keep my kid out of school because my priorities are mixed up.
Otherwise Wayne, Knysna is a great idea. Now you lot has to figure out when the date would be set so that I know whether I should ask someone else to take over the organisation of the event.

@ Zel - no need to get angry - as I said I probably won't even be here. I was just throwing a pitch in the ball park. I know you have a child and others might too. And it would only really be a 2 day vs a one day... coz you'll would arive on the 14th and leave 17th so there are only two days between. Like I say I was just throwing one out there...
Sedgefield is great @ Andrew.
I think everyone doing web searching and helping is a good idea - or maybe everyone can put a package together for their area that they wanna go to?

@ Vera - not angry at all. Just stating some facts. I agree with you though on everyone putting a package together in their area that they want to go to. That's a splendid idea!!
So Wayne said Knysna, en Andrew agreed. Sue? Where do you want to go? Vera, and you? Tienie, you live in a pretty stunning area yourself. You have something to add here? Oom Piet & Herman? Where are you guys?
I would prefer to go to Pilanesberg. I'll phone them again and throw a package together and let you know.

I want to go to Cairo!!

Before we can hope to stir any support or interest from local magazines or interested parties, we should see what the support from RR members amount to.
Can we have some participation, all South African RR members, let's see a show of hands please!
Eish!!!
Daardie plek is duur!!!
I am probably not gonna be here and even if I were - not sure if I could afford cheapest R500 per night... Travelling ain't a problem - everyone's gotta do it.
SO I'll be on reserve if I'm in the country :D

Ok, Oom Piet and I had a chat last week and I had a brainwave... Seeing as it's my annual leave during April, we'll be visiting the Garden Route during the school holidays.
Oom Piet feels that it's really very far for the Gautengers to travel to Knysna just for a weekend, so I suggested that we hold two weekends - one in Knysna during April and then again one in Pilanesberg, during the first weekend of May. I think it's a three day long weekend that one? Lemme know what you guys think about this mmm?
I've found a few places in Knysna to stay. Go check it out and lemme know what you think?

I think these would keep you busy for a while.

Did somebody say mampoer? :woot: Why do people not tell me about these forums?
WB Loftie! Congratulations with the new cam?
I am negotiating with my boss to see if I can be excused from work the weekend in May, it is our financial year end.
What has happened to Wayne? Scared of the mampoer?
@ Sue: Chin up, stay strong! Hugs!
LOL no not scared of the mampoer, scared of the oom carrying it!
We are definately in for the trip to Knysna in April. I doubt we willmake Pilanesberg though.
The only reason I didn't make the last one was because of a large medical expense that caught me by surprise
I'll wait and see who suggests what and where then make some comments.
Wish me luck! We are moving house this weekend
Wayne
Herman, if you followed the thread, you would see that we thought of having a weekend in Knysna for the ct members and anyone else who wants to attend. And then a weekend in May at Pilanesberg, for the rest of the members who do not want to drive all the way to Knysna.
You guys should seriously start thinking what you want to do and who wants to tag along. The places are getting really full and I need to make reservations.

Right! Who's in and who's not? I just got off the phone with Pilanesberg. They still have plenty of space available for Easter Weekend 2007 (14 - 17 April 2007).
We have to play this fast guys. It's school holidays and if we're not on our toes, we're going to have to sit with a 2-day weekend again.
