Subject: Model Export

Hi,

When I try exporting models in vue (multiple materials) I always either run out of memory, or have an exported model that is WAY too large to be uploaded to Renderosity. If I try a lower map resolution, it exports good, but is VERY low quality. (You can see the pixles on the model)

Are there any tricks to keeping file size down while exporting? (While geeting a good quality tex map)

What size are the maps you're trying to create? The slider in the export option goes way too far for texture sizes. I would say a 2048 pixels resolution should be enough. Also, if there is no transparency in your materials, don't create an alpha map. The bump map can be generated from the colour map in another software, so maybe you just need to create the colour map, and those who will use your model will connect the colour map to the bump channel themselves, if you explain them to in a readme file.

I can only go up to about 800 resolution using only colour map

This is the model I was hoping to release in a few different formats:

When you export 3DS, Vue creates texture maps for each part, even if the maps are EXACTLY the same.

I tried exporting one of my models with a texture res of 1024x1024, and it crashed. Have to report to e-on, my resources were high, and my memory manager said I had plenty left.
If you don't select bump and alpha maps in your export  options, I doubt they are created. maybe they appear in the object's materials list, but it must be the colour channel applied to all.
