Subject: Links in email go straight to Marketplace

ByteDreams ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 9:06 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 5:39 AM

Hi was wondering why when I click on a link in email notification especially those concerning forum posts, the link always opens up the frontpage of the market place.   I don't know if it is my settings...

SndCastie ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 9:30 AM

there are two links in the email notifications please make sure you are clicking on the first one that will take you directly to the post the sencond one takes you to the front page of the marketplace or forums

yep, the first one after the word "Click"
In fact it just did it again. both links take me to the Marketplace.  I'm using Outlook 2007 (beta), and my default browser is Firefox, which is why I wonder if it is some setting.

ByteDreams ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 11:44 AM

hmm, okay.  I just added tried it in Windows Live Desktop and it worked fine.  So it seems to be an Outlook 2007 issue.  Thanks

vikinglady ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 2:30 PM

I use IE6.
It is an issue for me.
I just tried the 'edit options' link and got the same Marketplace page.

StaceyG ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 2:49 PM

That is strange, I use IE6 and its never ever happened for me. I use the ebots alot to come to forum posts I'm in and not once have I landed on the Marketplace page, I always go exactly where I'm supposed to so I don't know then that its a browser issue..Very strange.

I'll talk to the programmers on Monday and see what I can find out.

Thanks

Well,  seems reintstalling Office 2007 (which includes Outlook)  fixed it.  I also uninstalled .Net Frameworks 2.0, but left version 1 in place.  it seems to work now,  though it prompts me to sign in first, still, after signing in, it went straight to the thread.  So -- it wasn't a browser problem.

StaceyG ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 5:53 PM

I use Outlook Express so I'm not sure if its an email client issue or what. I will find out.

ByteDreams ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 8:28 PM

okay, well now I'm mystified.
It's gone back to doing it again.  just when I thought it had fixed itself.
Guess the programmers will have something to do on monday after all.
Outlook Express -  replaced by Windows Live Desktop. The link works fine there though - it's Outlook 2007 the full version that this anomaly is taking place in.

StaceyG ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 8:31 PM

So when you used Outlook Express as I do, all was well? But just seeing this through Outlook 07?

ByteDreams ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2006 at 10:36 PM

Windows Live Desktop, good, Outlook 07, bad
I've changed how I receive messages from html to text to see if that has any affect

gillbrooks ( ) posted Fri, 24 November 2006 at 6:46 AM · edited Fri, 24 November 2006 at 6:48 AM

I'm getting this problem as well - it's been happening roughly since the html upgrade.

I've noticed this :

If I'm logged in and have recently been actively browsing then clicking on an ebot link will go to the gallery or forum post as it should.

If I've had IE open on a Rendo page but it's just been sitting there while I've been doing other stuff, or IE closed or on another site, then clinking on an ebot link not only sends me to the marketplace front page, but I also get a box up saying that the page contains secure and non secure items and do I want to proceed.

I thought it was just a problem that had arisen on my pc but it's obviously something here that's affecting a minority

IE6 by the way, and it matters not if I click on an ebot link thats in Outlook Express or MailWasher.

so, it seems it's some kind of bug in the upgrade possibly then.

kahshe ( ) posted Sat, 06 January 2007 at 3:26 PM

I get the same problem, no matter what I do, I'm on dialup and it's annoying to have to go through the slowest page on the site. I have a link to the front page which I'm never logged in on(welcome visitor) and anything I click (like galleries) takes me to the market place and logs me in. I used to be able to go direct, but from anywhere, email link, frontpage link, bookmark, whatever I always end up on the marketplace page. If  I'm following an email link (to view this post click) it takes me to the martketplace and then I have to look for the picture, very annoying, is there any way to fix this....rog

kahshe ( ) posted Sat, 06 January 2007 at 3:39 PM

OK after posting that an email link worked, who know? anyway quite often I end up on the marketplace page....

Perry6 ( ) posted Sat, 06 January 2007 at 6:58 PM

I'm using Safari on a Macintosh and I always get sent to the Marketplace when I click on an email link. I thought I had done something to cause this, but now I know I'm not alone. It always sees me as a visitor and I have to click "login." If I have a Renderosity page open but I haven't clicked on anything after a certain amount of time, it will take me to Marketplace when I finally do click on something. If anyone finds a solution, let me know. -Perry

kahshe ( ) posted Sat, 06 January 2007 at 10:47 PM

The solution for now seems to be , log in on your browser and then click the email link which opens a new browser which will take you directly to the post in the forum or picture in the gallery, this seems to work but a better fix would be good.

Perry6 ( ) posted Sat, 06 January 2007 at 10:56 PM

kahshe, I was so excited. It looked like it was going to connect me correctly this time... I saw the correct web address at the top of the Safari window and then it suddenly switched to the Marketplace address. It did automatically recognize me though and I didn't have to login. I'll celebrate this little victory! :) -Perry

vikinglady ( ) posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 12:50 AM

This has been an on going issue for me for months with only one week of reprieve.
I have to drag the link into the address bar instead of allowing it to try to create a new window.
This has gotten very tedious.

gillbrooks ( ) posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 3:47 AM

I had that problem for quite a while but it went away when the last site update was done.  Damn annoying it was too!

I found that logging in first, or going straight to the 'whats new' page that's in my favourites solved the problem but having to do that each time still irked.

Happens to me too. I use Incredamail. It only started when the elves increased the site speed and it's driving me mad!!!

If it ain't free, I can't afford it.

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2007 at 11:23 AM

If your session is expired this is when the ebot link will take you to the Marketplace front page. If your session is active, it should take you to the exact correct location of the link.  The session stay active for either 10 or 15 minutes.

FYI

Star4mation ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2007 at 1:16 PM

It's not just e-bot links that go to the marketplace. When I first go on to Renderosity I get the home page but I'm not logged on (which is strange 'cos I used to be permanently logged on) So I click on any link like My Gallery, or Galleries, or Forums and this takes me to The Marketplace where I'm already logged on. Then I have to click on where I want to go again!!! All this clicking twice is time consuming and very anoying (I've even deleted all my cookies to no effect)

If it ain't free, I can't afford it.

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2007 at 1:36 PM

Okay hold tight Star4mation and let me check on what you stated above

Perry6 ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2007 at 4:23 PM

My visits to Renderosity follow the pattern Star4mation described above. I've gotten used to all the extra clicking but I'd love to see some kind of a solution to it. -Perry

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2007 at 7:25 PM

Try one more time to delete all of your cookies – close all browser windows and then try to log back on.  Even though you may have deleted them,  without closing the browser window it’s likely to not clear up the problem.

Let me know:)

Also the programmers will be researching to resolve the problem of the ebot links not going to the appropriate place when the session expires, FYI

Perry6 ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2007 at 9:34 PM

Stacey, IT WORKED!!! I didn't realize that I was supposed to delete the cookies. There is a good chance that Renderosity posted it clearly and that I just ignored it or forgot it ( I am getting older so I'll use senility as my excuse!) -thanks a bunch!!!!!! Perry (I think that's who I am.....)

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2007 at 10:12 PM

Good news:) Glad it solved your problem

Star4mation ( ) posted Sat, 13 January 2007 at 3:24 AM

Lucky perry! I still got the same problem even after deleting all my cookies in the manner you sugested Stacie. So to get over all the frustration of having to select my destination twice every time I have set my Renderosity link to the marketplace so when go on RR now I'm logged on and only have to click once :)
I'm getting a new PC in a couple of weeks so maybe the problem will go away then!!
Cheers
Steve:)

If it ain't free, I can't afford it.

Alright, guys, guess what?

The new code that hopefully will fix this problem is now on the site. Since we were never able to duplicate the problem in the first place, we need you to test it for us. Please let us in the attached thread URL if you are now able to click on links in your eBots and, after logging in, are taken to the correct page instead of the Marketplace homepage.

Thanks!

Nicholas
