Forgive the intrusion.  I probably posted the same thing last year about this time.  I saw Trans-Siberian Orchrestra again tonight and I'm still wound up.  Their show blows any away that this old rocker has ever seen.  In case you didn't know, I hit my prime in the 60's and 70's so I lived through a lot of rock and roll.

Since this is viewed round the world, who are some of the best music groups you've seen live.

I have the DVD of the TSO show and I'm about your age too. Can't remember a lot of the shows I saw, but some great ones were Cream, Jethro Tull, Yes (with Tull), Rick Wakeman, Deep Purple, Zepplin, Zappa (5 times - one of my heros), Hendrix (another hero), Pink Floyd, Genesis - with Peter Gabriel & later with Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Ten Years After, The Allman Bros., ZZ Top (many, many times - home town boys), Ike & Tina Turner, Spirit, The Inner Mounting Flame (w/John McLaughlin), Return to Forever (Chick Corea & the boys), Stanely Clarke (one of the boys), Al DiMeola (another), Heavy Weather, INXS, Van Halen, Capt. Beefheart, Derek & the Dominoes, Joaney Mitchell, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Savoy Brown, T-Rex, Emerson-Lake&Palmer, The Who, Johnny Winter (Edgar to), Janis Joplin, The Greatful Dead, Three Dog Night, AC/DC, Men at Work, David Bowie, Pat Benatar, B.B. King,  and many . . Many more. As I said, can't remember all of them.

Are they a bit like the Leningrad Cowboys of a few years back? They had way out 50's high hairstyles, sideburns, cool sungalsses, pointy shoes, and played wicked rock n roll thru to rock stuff - all covers with a bit of comedy thrown in.

I rarely go to any conserts, but of the artists i´ve seen live, Jean Michel Jarre still top my list. It was a surreal experience.

being the irreverent person I am, I'd characterize them as sort of Progressive Europop..;)  I shudder to say what radio personality loves them, but he plays 'em throughout the holiday season.

Man, I saw that concert list. You started before me. My first concert was Grand Funk Railroad, with special guest Mountain..;) What I would have liked to have seen was the Monkees tour, with special guest Jimi Hendrix (no lie), Led Zepplin with Special guest Jethro Tull..which started a bit rivalry..who knew?..;)

Last new band I saw was Depeche Mode. Missed Coldplay, but couldnt' afford it..sigh..;)

How was Depeche? I missed them when they played in Gothenburg, which is about an hour drive from here. :(

Rochr, you're only the second person I've "met" who's even HEARD of Jean Michel Jarre!  And you saw him live?!?  Me and my buddy Jacques are jealous.  My two favorite albums of his are Zoolook and Revolutions.  Personally, I would love/have loved to have seen Tomita in Concert.  His "Live at Linz" album looked like a surreal, nutty experience.  Let's see if anyone knows who he is. ;c)

I heard of Jean Michelle Jarre too! In highschool I had to listen all about him all the time, since, lol, my best friend had a huge crush on him, and was following his work very closely!
I got to hear all about it!  tee hee!

Are you kidding, he´s the only guy who can create a 47 minute track and make me enjoy every second of it. :D Rendez Vouz II and Oxygene 2 i consider to be two of the best tracks ever released by any artist. 

I saw him live during his "Oxygene Tour", when he played in Scandinavium, Gothenburg some years back. The concert really started out superbly, with his laserharp unfolding, sending laserbeams throughout the entire concert arena. Awesome! :)

I still have the wax of Tomita's version of 'The Planets'. Awesome stuff, and still an influence on my compositions.

This was about 7 years ago or more, the Depech Mode tour maybe 2 CD's ago? The local critics were up in arms because they didn't have a full-time guitar player or drummer..'it wasn't rock and roll'...sigh..;) I liked it..;)

oh- trivial pursuit, but if anyone's read the book  Hammer of the gods (Led Zepplin authorized biography), I was at the Greensboro concert where they chased the tour bus all the way to the airport, but I went home (had a date..;)

I've been a guest o f someone who likes prog rock (a young'n who's younger than most of the stuff he listens to). Saw the Yes 30th anniversary tour (90% the same show I saw in 1975, or 4, or whenever), and Styxx (hey, someone else was paying..;) with Bad Company, and Eddie someone. Not sure if those count..;)

When I saw Yes, it was their debut tour opening for Jethro Tull. I remember that, though I was a big Tull fan, I couldn't tell you which I liked better.

There's an album cover I remember. :c)  And you're familiar with him too Connie?  Boy, I came to the right place.  Svarg, you impress the hell outta me having that as an album.  LOL

My collection of Jean Michel Jarre is limited to a few tapes:

Oxygene
Revolutions
Zoolook
Rendezvous
and Magnetic Fields

I discovered him back when he was brand new in the early 80s, and my friend and aquaintences in HS thought I was friggen nuts.  I was hooked the first time I heard "Ethnicolour" on Zoolook.  To this day, if I listen to that I have to read Stephen King's "The Long Walk".  The two scarily combine themselves very well together.
Combine that with listening to classical cum new age artist Tomita and owning 40 plus tapes of Tangerine Dream and most of the Art of Noise albums, yeah, popular as a wart in a dermatologist's office. 

As for Tomita albums you couldn't get them here, so I had to tape copies from the library.

"Holst: The Planets" (Mars is by far his signature piece)
"Kosmos (Pacific 231 is my favorite of all his works outside of Pavane for a Dead Princess)
"Best of Tomita" (Star Wars theme not withstanding, it's a pretty good album)
"Tomita's Greatest Hits" (Better, but not really a great mix of his work)
"Snowflakes are Dancing" (Debussy's finest, plus the theme to "Star Hustler" came from here)
"Grand Canyon Suite"  Creepy but oh so enchanting
"Pictures at an Exhibition"  (Best version of this work I've ever heard)
"Live At Linz" (I loved his fooling around with the "Close Encounters" theme and solo violinist)

But that's all I ever had... and now it takes an act of God to find one to buy it seems or a lot of trust on the internet.  sigh....

I'm shocked so many people yes 2 is "so many" for now, know who JM Jarre.   Just makes me giddy in a stupid way.

Let's see who can scare me and know who "Synergy" is, let alone Larry Fast without googling him. What other far out artists do we know?

I bit the bullett and ripped my entire CD collection of over 800 albums to MP3 and it's all on my laptop competing with Bryce OBPs for space :-)  10.366 songs 52.20 Gb 31.3 days played back to back.  But it's nice to have choice. I think of my laptop as a giant MP3 player - but not quite as portable.  The inbuilt speakers aren't too bad either but I can output to the stereo system. The music is a very eclectic mix.

I also have 'Snowflakes' and 'Pictures at an Exhibition'. The latter I have by the London Philharmonic, Tomita, and ELP.  My preference depends on my mood but they're all great. Nice colection there, mboncher.

I don't guess Frank Z's highschool buddy, Capt. Beefheart (Don Van Vliet) is all that obscure. How about Red Crayola or the Fish?

Svarg is either richer than snot or was a roady or something to have seen so many shows.  I've still got vinyl of Tomita's planets.  We used to use "Mars" as opening soundtrack as lead into my brother's band when playing the clubs.  My list of saw live (don't laugh this will go way back)

Not that anyone cares,  We didn't blow away in the storm.  A couple trees down around the area from high winds but no tornadoes locally .  Thank you, Lord.

I am glad to hear that you did not blow away in the storm.  You have alot of groups on your list that I wish I had on mine.  I forgot all about Van Halen.  Maybe because I was up in the nosebleed section.

I've been to Styxx, twice, Gladys Night and the Pips, J Giles, three dog night, tom Petty and supposedly Reo but I can't remember that one.

I´m so damaged when it comes to music that I think I´ve heard of most of the bands mentioned from Jarre to Mountain. I really envy some of you who´ve seen bands like Ten years after for example. I´m mostly into the 70:s music. The best show Ive seen in the last yeasr must be one with Queens of the stoneage. I´ll take this oppurtunity to recomend a good album with a group called Indukti and the album S.U.S.A.R. If you like Pink Floyd, Tool and progressive music you should check it out. They´ve only released that one album.

  Grand Funk Railroad (as mentioned), Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin (as written about..;), Yes, ELP, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, Bad Company, Genesis (Invisible Touch tour), Duran Duran, Adam Ant, B52s/Connells, Garbage, Depeche Mode (again?!..;), Pretenders, Dead Kennedys, the Veldt, Psychadelic Furs, Kings X (2nd loudest thing I've ever heard), Kansas, Styxx (about 2 years ago, and someone else paid for the tickets), Jethro Tull (twice), Ted Nugent (for 1 year, he was the backup band for everybody..by the 3rd time that yearI was in the front row, reading a Rolling Stone while they played. The Bass Player was not amused..;) The Musical Box (a Quebecois [sp?] dead-accurate cover band that did 'Genesis in '73'), Joan Jett,  Angel...dang..in 32 years I don't get out much.

Hmm last few concerts in the sates before the journey east. Saw the Flower Kings sort of a Sweedish Yes. Awsome show not a lot of peoplethere but it was amazing. Saw Brian Kenny Fresno sort of a one man band with a Warr guitar playing sort of Zappa type stuff raunchy complex tunes funshow and quite a few girls there.
     Last big name band I saw was Pink Floyd on the Division bell tour quite an impressive show. Saw a lot of shows in the 70's and  80's. Cheap trick, Blue Oyster Cult, Angel, Nazareth, Stevie Ray Vaughn got to go back stage and meet the Allman brothers it was after Duane was gone though.
   

ah ok, i've seen.... all systems go, big black and beautifull, some 90's trance diva, a few idols singers, and a whole bunch of classical mucisians, including the Koninklijk Concergebouw Orkest.

Eeast coast of Canada talking here so there's gonna be a few bands nobodies heard of here, but to start off(my formitive years) here goes.

AC DC Who made Who - 3 rows back in front of the stage, Angus Young blew me away, still wondering if he will have my babies?   rating 10
Trajically Hip (3 times) - They were a bar band whene I first saw them just startin out in the late 80's in Kinston Ont  - rating 10(still one of the best live acts i've ever seen)
David Wilcox - rating 8 - Great Canadian artist that no ones ever heard of. Sortof a ryhthm and blues witha solid rock beat, if you never heard him see if you download some MP3's you wont be disappointed.

George Thorogood - New Years Eve, what a night - rating 91/2
Double bill ZZ top and Van Halen(unfortunetely without David Lee Roth, with Sammy Hagar) ZZ was excellent but Van Halen without DLR is not Van Halen. Nuf said - rating 6
NEIL YOUNG(MY FAVORIT ARTIST) RAGGED GLORY TOUR-What can I say 10 1/2
Stompin Tom again (It's bud the spud from the bright red mud) most CND's will understand - rating 8
