Subject: Download 1.3 GIGS?? I am about ready to get Vue 6

Lyne ( ) posted Tue, 28 November 2006 at 12:13 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 11:26 PM

but it's late tonight, and I stopped at the 1.3 gig download...(I can sidegrade from my vue 5i, for the $250, so that is good)....but is Vue 6 one massive zip or exe or is it in parts?? I can't imagine and need to know so I can PLAN my computer time... I do have DSL and I get mostly 159 at here and DAZ downloading...and I got the C3d Sequoia trees and more very fast last night....soooo how it is set up, please?

And once they have the "full final" version, we will be downloading the 1.3 gigs again, right?

Oh...and will I have to find a content file to download too?

Thanks for helping me prepare! :))

It's an exe file. First you download a downloader, and it grabs the main installer.

Then there's a much smaller content zip.

Also, there is a patch available, and a fix for the content installer (jut in case they never updated the original files)

Why not download it overnight? Now that the mad rush is over, I suspect it won't take long depending on your connection speed.

OH I would never leave my machine on over night... got a back up battery etc. but just "can't".... sooo how long DID it take for you? Gosh...if I didn't want it sooo much...I might wait for it to be mailed like I did all the previous versions... ! :)

Our machines stay on 24 7 for weeks on end here, with an occasional "cleaning" reboot.

I always download big stuff overnight if I can.

I have a very fast cable download speed (10 meg), and got the entire thing in like 17 minutes.

Well, it is 1.5 Gig only when all is expanded. The installer is something like 4-500 MB when i have it in mind correctly, the extra cd around 350 MB. I am sure you can download that, even when you watch tv while the machien si doing it. I as well let it run over night so i do not know really how long it took. Not to forget that i downloaded in the rush times (at the end) where everybody was downloading and therefore there was a lot of traffic on the servers. Now it might be a little easier.

Well, I will just devote a DAY to this.... I have never wanted something so much... I wonder if when the full version comes out we could opt for a shipped version?

Oh yes - the final version will probably only an update. And when i have it right in mind, for $50 you can order manual and cds so that you have the boxed version even when you downloaded  the beast before.

I know this prolly is a "pre release deal" but if you have to pay 50 bucks extra to get the actual CD then the price of the final boxed version will likely be the same.
Any idea when the boxed version is available?

For me it took about 3 hours until both parts resided on my Mac, so it didn't took a whole night at all. I grapped a good book in the meantime so the waiting wasn't too hard. ;)

I thought E-on were only supplying the box and manual for $50...I didn't think the CD's were included.
Anyway, I'm waiting for the boxed deal...once bitten, twice shy and all.

Cheers

Me to I am waiting for the boxed version.

I wish e-on would change their mind on this issue and let us download the pre now then let us order the cd's and manual later as will not cost them or us any more than what we are doing now.

Cheers

Glad to hear you're getting it Lyne!!

You'd think they'd give us "pre-release" purchasers the manuals for free seeing as though we're kind of helping them with some technical issues!!
