Subject: installing rendercow

jarm ( ) posted Mon, 04 December 2006 at 2:31 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:28 PM

    Hi all

I just installed Vue 6 and figured I'd get my two other machines rendercow'ed up for network rendering.  According to the Vue 6 manual I get 5 rendercows, more than adequete for my needs.

So I go to any of my other machines, install Rendercow and I ge the cryptic message ''please insert application before continuing the installation'.

I have tried install from hard disk, network drive, the CD itself and there's no difference.  I have tried selecting the root of the Vue CD, the rendercow folder, all subfolders within that, to no avail.

Anybody else know what the installer is asking for?

Thanks

Jody

Yep! The V6 rendercow installer wants access to the file tree you downloaded to install V6 from. the cow files are scattered all through that tree. Burn the entire installation download to a CD or copy it to the computer you are installing a cow on, and run the cow installer from that. And be certain that your OS hasn't changed the file attributes to something like write only.

Hmm, I have installed it from the CD directly, I have it so the CD autoruns and it still doesn't seem to work.

hmmm...puzzling

You shouldn't have to installl ue in order to install cows. Are you sure the files on the CD are not corrupted somehow? maybe you could copy the ISO you downloaded from e-on on the machines you want to install the cows. If you still have the file. I know I deleted it after burning the cd.

No I have only been using the downloaded copy, hmm, perhaps a corruption in that part of the CD image.

I shall wait until the final release, not a major problem, just eager to get the most out of my PCs.

Thanks for the assistance.
best wishes

Jody

I have the exact same problem here with V6 Studio Pro.

It’s been driving me nuts because I can’t get it installed and I need too in order to cut down rendering times.

If anyone has a solution, I’d love to hear it.

Regards.

James

I have submitted a tech support ticket over at e-onsoftware to try and find out what the problem is.

Best wishes

Hello.

I finally got a reply from e-onsoftware. I guess the holidays slowed them down a little.

Anyway… they activated a new download for me and after removing the old one, and installing the new one. Everything is now working fine.

I’m currently rendering an image right now across 5 laptops. Laptops are so handy on saving space.

In short… I’m a happy camper again :-)

Kind regards.
James.

Hmm, I hope they reply to my message soon then.

Well done though, there's hope :-)

Yep, it’s working away really well now.

Hope they release a new download for you too. It’s a higher version than the initial release, so obviously they found something in there that the update patch didn’t fix.

Kind Regards.

James.
