I just downloaded and tried out a free modelling package called Art Of Illusion. Most other modelling software which is free or shareware will not work on Intel Macs. This software will, as it is Java based and thus platform independant. Enclosed is a pic of a quicky render showing some of the objects I made, not having read any of the comprehensive manual, and just testing that it worked on my Mac.  The usual lathe/extrude/pipe type stuff. But this app is much more capable - a quick check of the gallery at the linked site will reveal what it can do - for $0...  The goldfish is very nice.

Needless to say, the meshes import into Bryce very well.

AOI is hereby condemed to the abyss as a heretical program. Touch it not, sinners or be damned for all time.

I did make that render using Bryce. And the textures/mats were from Bryce. Only the meshes from AOI. I see it as another tool to import things into Bryce, much like DAZ Studio or Poser.  :-)

It does lofts which is nice. AC3D which is my second app does not do them. Don't like some of the controls for me like camera and scale and things like that. Has a nice renderer. it seems they make the simple things to hard to do. Cmera and scaling while things that are complicated are not that complicated. Its free but I have tons of freeware.

Yes, but AC3D now imports Terragen and does lots of new stuff....

I just tried AOI, and it makes ropes and pipes easier than anything else I've tried - thank you ManlySteve for the heads up!  (Forgive me, Cardinal B!)

One has to question how hard it would be to build in this simple functionality into Bryce. A simple extrude, pipe, lathe type set of tools would really round out the capabilities of the app.

Don't forget to see if there are any scripts or plugins that interest you.

Thanks for that link nruddock, but most of the links didn't work and the two scripts I tried to down load errored when run.  oh, well the app itself work okay.

It's in the same catagory as WINGS3D. Therefore it's heretical! :tongue1:
