Subject: Can anyone who had downloaded V4 tell...

...what I can do with my V3 stuff (textures, cloth)???

Lucifer_The_Dark ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 12:16 PM

According to the Daz site (I haven't got V4 yet) the clothes will be usable with the V4-V3 figure, V4 head on V3 body.

So V4 is not unimesh?  Different texture mapping?

shg0816 ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 1:03 PM

So, if I use the V4-V3 character, will the quality be the same as using the V4 character, or will it be like a V3?

As much as I want her, I want to make sure I don't have to scrap all the v3 clothes (unless the WW comes out with the conversion ;-) )

Arien ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 1:04 PM

Yes, very different. The new mapping address the issue of texture stretching that quite a few people have been complaining about for a while.

At this moment I don't know if Steve from 3DUniverse will be doing a UTC plug-in for V4, but I think he should be mad not to give it a try.

pass, I'm waiting for the early adopters to find that one out.

I'll let you know. V4 is now free until the 13th oof December. So, just got that + the morphs.

That would be nice. There are a lot of very nice makeup textures out there for V3, and I would really like to convert them to V4.

shg0816 ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 1:51 PM

Or if someone created a script that could convert V3 stuff to V4.  I'd be willing to pay for that

Paying $20-$30 for something like that would certainly beat paying a lot more in buying a whole new wardrobe

Lucifer_The_Dark ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 1:55 PM

I reckon before Christmas we'll see plugins for both Wardrobe Wizard & Universal Texture Convertor which will solve your problem kanshinin.

i've let my PC expire. Might be worth renewing, now.

What is the PC price for the full Victoria 4.0 Pro bundle?

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 2:39 PM

Definitely worth renewing your PC membership.

The pro bundle is $48.98 with the PC discount.

And remember, they'll give you a $30 voucher as a welcome gift.

operaguy ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 2:43 PM

Thanks, that's worth it, just to put her through her paces in an animation. V4 seems to have improved arms/shoulders over the ridiculous V3, judging by the various vendor and promo images. I still see the horrible bent-drinking-straw inner elbow crease, however.

Still, worth a test run.

Is this a platnum club thing?  It says the base is On Sale for $20.97 when I look.  Maybe my eyes are going but I can't see a free version anywhere.

Yes it's a platinum club thing, but only for new subscribers & people renewing their subscription, I think it's something to do with the vouchers you get when you subscribe, they're enough to get V4 for free. Possibly.....I could be totally wrong.

Well, I signed up for PC and got a $5.00 voucher and a million freebies to download. No $30.00 voucher. Maybe the $30.00 voucher only applies if you pay for a full year of PC, I just signed up for the $29.00 monthly.

No big deal. Getting the full pro for $50.00 (Plus the $30.00 for PC) is okay.

Right now I just downloaded the V4 base so I can throw her in Poser and see how she moves and bends.

Hey Opera, Be sure and post links for us other animators to see how she moves.

Everyone who is a member of the PC gets the base for free.  It's not just for new subscribers and people who are renewing.

randy,77, I don't see any $30.00 voucher mentioned anywhere... do you have a link?

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 3:46 PM

I think Operaguy is right.  The $30 voucher is for those who buy the annual membership (or renew annually).  Sorry, I've been in the PC since before there was a monthly option, and tend to forget about it.

I usually renew in November, on the PC anniversary, but I held off this year, so the voucher would still be good when V4 came out.  (Due to the various free months DAZ has given me over the years, my membership doesn't actually expire until March.)  I just renewed annually, and a $30 voucher was credited to my account.

operaguy ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 3:51 PM

When you opt for monthly, you get a $5 voucher each month.

Animation rendering now, post within the hour.

All PC members get a $5 monthly voucher.  So if you join the PC with an annual membership,  you end up with $35 worth of vouchers.

JHoagland ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 5:46 PM

To answer the original question, just look at the history of DAZ figures:

V3 wouldn't take V2 stuff unless you used the V3-V2 figure, but that figure didn't take V3 or V2 morphs.
From what I've heard, the V4-V3 figure will be the same: it will take V3 stuff, but it won't take the morphs of V4 or V3.

Sure, PhilC will be providing Wardobe Wizard support, but realistically, how many people use that program? How many people will be clamoring for all-new clothing specifically made for V4?

In other words, like all of the V2 stuff, all of the V3 stuff will soon be obsolete.

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 08 December 2006 at 5:59 PM

Well, V2 could use most V1 stuff, so there was some hope.  :)

BillyGoat ( ) posted Sat, 09 December 2006 at 3:18 PM

I hope V3 is not 'phased out' of the stores... If you look hard enough, you will not see any V2 textures or characters left. Maybe an old hair do, but that's it.  I wasn't  rich enough to get all the V2 content I wanted. Never thought it would go away. So get those V3 goodies you want now before the decline starts.

I'm still pulling out boxes of CDs looking for all the 'old' stuff.

modus0 ( ) posted Sat, 09 December 2006 at 4:11 PM

It'll be at least a year or two, maybe more, before V3 content is completely phased out.

After all, there are going to be those people who inevitably refuse to get V4, and continue to use V3 long after there are enough products for V4.

**youll be surprised, there are still some stuff for V2 in stores everywhere, because a lot of people refuse V3 and the newer figures.
I use most of the third Gen figures because i cant affrord to buy V4 at all, not until maybe a few years from now LOL.
