Subject: SSS for Poser Characters

lululee ( ) posted Thu, 30 November 2006 at 12:56 PM · edited Thu, 15 August 2024 at 5:01 PM

Although I have only  been rendering in Cararra5 Pro a short time I and really like the way Cararra renders. i would like to be able to add SSS to to my Poser characters. Are there any tutorials on how to do that or are there any pre-made shaders available?

Hi Lululee, SSS on Poser characters is never done the same way twice since so much depends on the lighting in your scene. Consequently, I'm not aware of any specific tutorials for SSS on Poser characters. However, the general method I use is to select a color in the skin tone but darken it around 50 percent. It's a good starting point at least. From there, area renders and low res render tests is how you fine tune it to your satisfaction. You can search this forum for some posts by a user named Shonner that has been doing considerable skin tests and SSS renders on his characters. I don't know that the posts have any specific how-to's about SSS but you can learn a lot from his methods. Mark
