Subject: Who wants Aiko v4?

Now that v4 is out who wants aiko v4?

I really hope they do bring her out and that they add all the v4 gimmicks but i wish also that they try to keep the geometry intact...

who's with me on this?!!

Last I heard from one of the PA's - the GIRL 2 is the next one scheduled to roll out, followed by M4 and then A4 ... but don't quote me since we all know things at DAZ can change from one minute to the next.

For me, yes, both A4 and H4

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 09 December 2006 at 9:43 PM

I'm quite happy with V3 and the Aiko that we have now.

I don't see why everyone is rushing to buy yet another "Vicky".

If DAZ gives A4 the V4 makeover I'm there!

darthbobvilla ( ) posted Sat, 09 December 2006 at 11:17 PM

girl 2?

Not a very attractive prodduct to me....she is beautifull and all but too cartoony....plus there is not a clothes i like for her.....plus the aiko product is more interesting...i guess daz's priorities are a little weird for me...i would say that a michael 4 would be coming out before girl....

sigh we have to be patient i guess...

*That is what sold her. That disney look.

Sydney_Andrews ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 1:29 AM

Yes, of course, Id like A4

mathman ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 1:31 AM

Well, if Girl 2 is next cab off the rank, I hope that they give her some "realistic" morphs (like Aiko and Hiro).

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 1:44 AM

I am curbing my enthusiasm until I see some sign that V4 really works. The Base version is a totally inadequate sample. Yes, when do we get a male figure?

-Timberwolf- ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 2:35 AM

Don't forget Stephanie V4 .

vilian ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 8:54 AM

Nope, if A4 is going to be THAT wonky (weird eyes, no eyebrows, poor muscles), I'll stick with my A3 and H3, thank you. But that's just me ;)

Looks like I am one of the few who actually like The Girl, but then I used to be in love with Betty Rubble.

Wow Girl 2... they're wasting their time...

CrimsonDesire ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 11:53 AM

Not at all, I understand The Girl is quite a popular figure like many of the spinoffs such as The Freak for example (which I still do not have owing to his high price tag).

I'm quite happy with the A3 and Hiro models currently available, but then I'm going to most likely be buying V4 primarily out of neccesity (in the long term) to keep up with different product lines by various venders here and at DAZ I like to support with my small purchases when I can scrape togeather some funds.

My last major purchase was the Morphs and Maps for A3 so I'd probably let out several loud shrieks of dismay and fall over in little spasms with spirals in my eyes if they came out with a A4 just when I've finally begun to really gotten to experiment with everything A3 has to offer.

As with all the Millenium 3rd generation figures there are so many products and freebies out there for A3 as well as for that matter V3, M3 and so on that I could be quite happy for some time just slowly getting everything for those characters and maybe working on getting the rest of the 3rd generation figures (most of whom have hefty price tags).

But with V4 already in the stores, and the increasing popularity of the A3 model, it's probably going to eventually come to a A4 model being released (although my guess is not until well after for example M3 would get a makeover to M4 or something).  Part of it may also depend on user demand and competing products releases.

Of course many people speculated that V4 was not going to be released for awhile yet, and all of a sudden she's her, so I guess you never know ^^

onimusha ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 3:17 PM

Look at the Rendo galleries if you want to know whether or not the girl is a good idea.  Out of the thousands of images posted on Rendo, how many use the girl?  Next to zero.  How many use A3 and V3?  About 90%.  If they were smart, they'd just forget about the girl and focus on Aiko, maybe incorporate the girl into Aiko or something, since they're both cartoon characters from different genres.  The girl was a terrible figure that always looked really bad anyway, which is why no one uses it.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 4:16 PM

jeez, that's wack! girl 2 comes out after what's-his-name's girl 3? beam me up, scotty  girl 1 is too grotesque for general use IMVHO, hence I hope girl 2 has ameliorated that a bit. I'm favourably impressed by the renders of v4 by the pros here, hence I expect A4 to be a similar improvement. along with the soon-to-be seen complaints that she's "too young" when folks post nude renders

  • Well, doesn't that work both ways?   If V3 and A3  fill the galleries, anyway, there isn't a blindingly obvious need to replace them, is there?

The "realistic" characters don't show expressions all that convincingly.   If you try to duplicate more extreme expressions of the human face with M3/V3/D3, the result is generally ridiculous.   If you want an out-of-the-box, swivel-eyed nutter, there's always Jessi, I suppose, but, paradoxically, it's the cartoons that handle expressions best:  the Girl, Alexa 2 and Laroo 2.

Only reason I got the Girl 1 was because of the Girl/Aiko hybrid thread here a while back - which happened to time with the PC anniversary letting me get her for free. If she had cost more than 10¢ I would have skipped.
Her only value was as a toon head to put on top of Aiko's body - which I find looks better than Aiko Toon or Bel Bel.

I'm for Girl 2 coming next - it means a span of time during which I won't be suffering from Daz-temptation and can focus on Sydney / Simon or whoever.

If only they'd update the Power Pixie and the Shark after that, soI could keep avoiding temptation. :)

The Vicky line has been plagued with poor bendability since Vicky 1, which has driven a constant need to update her up until Aiko 3 came out...

Aiko 3 has fewer issues, so there isn't as much need to replace her as there was for Vicky 3 - but she does have her problems.

No it doesn't really work both ways.  If something works you should improve on that, not make something completely different that people have proven they don't want to use.

Morgano ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 9:01 PM

How can people have proved that they don't want to use something that hasn't been created yet?

arcady ( ) posted Sun, 10 December 2006 at 9:06 PM

Nobody's made self-dancing cybernetic tight-butted bell-bottomed flower-patterned Disco pants, but I'm fairly certain I don't have a desire to get them when and if they come out.

Yeah... the girl's been out for what, almost two years now... no one uses it... proof enough for me.  I guess the real problem is that people would want to see an A4 really badly and could care less about the girl.  So why do the girl first?

Netherworks - hehehehehehe!

girl 1 was released after poser users deluged kim goossens with requests that he make a poser version of his g.i.r.l.  after her clones, sara and alexa had done fairly well in the marketplace and had a big following.  true to poser community form, after gorging on her and doing lots of pics that weren't as good as the originals (because the originals were rendered by the creator, who knew how to light and compose a scene professionally well), people complained about how stylized she was.  and i realized why so few 3d artists decide to sell figures to the poser world and make tons of money.  we begged and begged for her, made her look lower quality, then roundly criticized her for the exact same reasons we asked for her.  crazy.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Mon, 11 December 2006 at 12:20 AM

I thought they had changed her look from the original. She was changed for reasons I can't remember. I still like Girl and use her for more of a toon render, which she is perfect for. Fads come and go and girls seems to be one of them but I'm looking forward to see what they have done to Girl2. Maybe a more realistic body.

Then again, Maybe she won't even be released. Daz said that she would be shortly after V4. The news letter last march I think it was said that both V4 and Girl2 would be released. With the way Daz went about with V4, I doubt Girl2 will be any time SOON, if at all.

Dynamic flamenco pants?  That sounds rather good actually.  :)  Hopefully Poser 7's dynamics are going multithreaded along with rendering...

arcady ( ) posted Mon, 11 December 2006 at 12:45 AM

Well people like me who are expressing no interest in the Girl at present are also people who never asked for the figure in the first place.

Poser is a very large community. If a 1000 people ask an artist to model up a version of their character for Poser, that is still only a small segment of the community.

Just because the remainder expresses no interest, just not make it a poor idea for a modeler to meet the request of that 1000. A 1000 sales is after all, a good amount of spare change. Just because I still have no interest, does not mean it would not be a good idea to do it. Just because I am likely to keep having no interest as that figure update comes out, does not mean someone else won't.

everything i've ever heard from people who actually have access to numbers put the poser community/market at a few thousand at most.   it comes up everytime people mention diverse figures or characters, and people say there's not enough of a market to support sub-markets.  but i'd love to hear from renderosity, daz and others on the matter.

and i've seen it happen multiple times.  put whatever reason you want on it, i've watched tons and tons of people demand something, get it, then see nothing but negative posts about it in a month or two.  most of those people who deluged the galleries with girl pics no longer do so, nor defend her when she is criticized.  even though i saw multiple threads going gaga over girl before she came out, going gaga over sara and over alexa, and really losing it over girl's release, i've seen not one thread anticipating girl 2.   and i've seen many, many threads recently criticizing her and not one praising her.  speaking of the community as a whole, it's an about face.

as far as i know, they changed sara upon girl's release, but girl had 0 noticeable differences from goossen's original renders.  including her hair.

onimusha ( ) posted Mon, 11 December 2006 at 5:40 AM

I too am not one of the people who requested the Girl.  I actually can't stand the lot of them, Sara, Alexa, Laroo.  It's not that they're bad figures in some kind of technical sense, they just have nothing to do with the kinds of renders I create.  The Girl was especially annoying though because when it came out, that's all DAZ had in the shop for weeks, so it was weeks of me seeing products I had no interest in.  I don't look forward to that again.

But given the Girl's cold reception, and given how ridiculously popular A3 is, it makes no sense that they're even doing a Girl 2 and even less that they'd do a Girl 2 before an A4.

Sara is another excellent figure, especially considering that she is free.
