Subject: ball joint doll by studio maya

kobaltkween ( ) posted Sat, 28 October 2006 at 4:41 PM · edited Wed, 13 November 2024 at 7:19 PM

i was wondering if anyone had bought the ball joint doll by studio maya yet?  he doesn't have many promo images on his site or at artzone yet, and i (though less than others)  were wondering what some of the morphs look like.

Dang!  I saw a render of it on a Japanese site yesterday!  Now ,of course--I cannot remember where!  It looked prtty good in a creepy sort of way.  It was a Halloween type shot, so it was supposed to look creepy. LOL

It looked pretty high-quality, IMO.  Not to my tastes, but pretty cool looking.  Perfect for the Toy-Story and Devil-Doll type of renders!

I ordered it a couple of days ago pokeydots, and after a couple of hours I got a link.

Have you tried the black hair? It seems  there's a texture file missing in that one, maybe I ordered too soon ;)   Oh, and does yours come with a set of conforming ball joints?   Since both versions have ball joints included I wonder what the stand-alone joints are for.

And here are some faces, the default face is followed by 9 preset faces that the doll has and a couple of expressions I quickly made.   On the right are some faces i made with the various morphs provided and Poser 6's morph randomizer script.    An easy way to play with morphs is to use the animation slider, randomize at frame 30 and slide back to see various results!

All in all I'm very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in this type of figure.

wow, kalypso, thanks so much for all the renders and the info.  she looks precious.

The black hair loaded fine for me. And yes mine has a set of conforming ball joints, maybe that is for clothing creators?

Wow, how cute.  The price is not bad, considering you get clothing and hair, too.

I'm seriously tempted.

stephaniebt ( ) posted Sun, 29 October 2006 at 10:30 AM

I just couldn't resist, I had to get her -- she's really, really cute! I fiddled around with some shaders on the dress and made a face morph using the dials. The face is very customizable. :)

If you mean the black hair with the braids and bows, it's from a pack of LadyLittlefox's hair from her various characters converted to Aiko.

They're .cr2 files but with some scaling and parenting instead of conforming I use them on a lot of other characters too.

So, now I'm waiting for PhilC to make her Wardrobe Wizard compatible!

oop!  i thought you meant stephaniebt's pic.  i can almost remember the dress that went with that hair.  if you haven't got it, it's from the charmed clothing pack for koshini, and is in the koshini, kiki and aiko hair packs (the former at runtime dna and the latter at daz).

She´s real cute. I just wanted to buy her, but where do I enter my e-mail, so that Mr. Maya can send me the link. There was no option at paypal to send a message to the merchant. Or do I get the chance after payment is finished, haven´t paid yet, because I wasn`t sure what to do.

Thanks for your help

stephaniebt ( ) posted Mon, 30 October 2006 at 2:21 PM

On my receipt the email is support@3digitalcrafts.net.

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 30 October 2006 at 3:05 PM

I bought it.  The link will be sent to your PayPal e-mail address.

He also gave me an extra gift (a tradition in Japan, I'm told).  A Yuna outfit for Mayadoll:

Res the thread!!

I LOVE this doll.. Still hoping rather feebly that there will be new clothes and textures for her. She's got a new outfit at renderosity, anyone see it?

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=52055

There's also a cute santa outfit at Studio Maya's website.

I'm looking for textures and outfits for the BJD... if anyone finds any, PLEASE share :)

Thanks a lot!!!!  GRRRRRR

DisparateDreamer ( ) posted Wed, 13 December 2006 at 8:22 AM

Randym, have you emailed PhilC about WW? If enough of us email and ask (or beg) for BJD support, he just might do it...

Also, we should all email Studio Maya, and ask him to contact PhilC about it as well.

There's no doubt... this doll is adorable, and needs more clothes!!!
